Warm and cosy pub that seems primarily aimed at diners. Each table had the pub's Christmas menu. We were the only customers. So it was difficult to judge the atmosphere, which appeared to be lacking. The two real ales were Andwell Gold Muddler & Hogsback TEA.

Have just returned on this sweltering day from visiting this pub for a recce. It's a lovely setting for a country pub and I wondered if that would be reflected in the price of the menu, drinks etc. At first glance mains averaging 13 seemed a bit steep for the purse so mrs bear & myself opted for roasts (turkey & beef)@ 9.50 each. In my opinion the roast is a good barometer of the general food standard in a given pub, so here goes. Meals duly arrived from the friendly efficient member of staff 15 mins or so after ordering. Everything on the plate (plus cauli cheese as seperate dish) was lovely and worth every bear penny! I must confess that I can't comment on the beer quality as due to the strangely clement weather I was drinking Guinness but I think there were 4 real ales on tap. To conclude this pup gets the 'bear stamp' of approval for food and convivialty....happy days

Please note I accidentally posted this regarding the wrong pub! I mistakenly clicked on this instead of the Royal Oak at Lower Farringdon! The one at Lasham is ok!

Like this place.. this time we we mob-handed (5) and all had the Ringwood Best. Landlord is on top of his job and and handled us in proper style.. courteous and obliging. Didn't get 'purpleronnie's' flavour of cliquey locals, but ours was a flying visit (no pun intended) so time was short.

The food and drinks are very expensive. The owners and locals are very clicky and tend to snub strangers. The Village bar (public bar) can be busy with aircraft maintenance workers from up the road - stinking of oil and grease!!

Super-dooper pub - lovely setting, lovely beer - yet to try the food, but with the newly decced out dining room, the chalk board looked very tempting. Add this one to your country crawl!

We ate here on August 11th. Nice to eat a pub meal in the pub and NOT in a restaurant despite having our 13 year old with us. She had a baguette whilst we had a meal. Found the specials rather pricey but carefully chose a Thai Curry. Some of the desserts were off so we had another drink instead. All very nice if you choose the right dishes. Lovely village with a pond and church. A good find.

Decided to stop off here on our way down to Southampton for a few days. Took the decision based on the previous reviews and the main aim was a decent pint and decent pub food for a lunchtime. Cannot say I was disappointed. The Ringwoods was very drinkable and our party had a mixture of sandwiched, baguettes and main meals from the specials board, all of which were very good. So if your aim is for a decent pint and decent pub food for a lunchtime, cant fault the Royal Oak in that respect.

The main course was very good but the starter was bland and dessert was un-eatable so we changed it for something a little more palitable which was fine but were charged for both desserts on the final bill plus an over charge of 5! Come on, what happened to the idea that the customer is always right? Probably would not eat there again.

What a great pub. Five real ales, one from just four miles down the road, and though I only tried two they were both excellent. Lovely garden with a choice of sun or shade, and landlord and staff really friendly. Real ales all seemed to be 2.50 which if you've come from London seems pretty reasonable. The only niggle is, I was a bit disappointed in my bacon, brie and cranberry sauce baguette, but I was with a party of nine, and everyone else cleared their plates with enthusiasm, so it may just have been me. But I'll certainly go back.

Food is great and the beers are a treat. Staff are always nice and friendly. Lovely area too.

Great little pub. Really good food with generous portions. Friendly staff. What more could you want.

I personally think the idea of the 'rural idyll' is a complete myth. Having been brought up in a small village I know all about the petty debates and often small-minded insularity that blight England's villages. However... the Royal Oak at Lasham is almost enough for me to change my mind. This place is not lost in time but is preserved in, for want of a better expression, civility aspic. It is simply a wonderful place to wile away time quietly. The pub isn't especially attractive on th inside but it does everything well in a totally unfussy, unfazed way. Blissful.

Earlier commentators have covered the essence of this classic unspoilt village gem that looks as if little has changed for many a year, and all to the good. I have visited on quiet afternoons but it was a) open (which one can't always rely on with rural pubs), and b) friendly. The staff were on hand to take one through the broad range of well-conditioned cask ales, which are guaranteed not to disappoint the true beer lover. I haven't eaten here, but I daresay it's worth a punt. The garden is mature and charming, especially when weather permits an outdoor session. The pub is at the centre of things and is close to the local church, itself a picture.

Specials menu offered a great choice of very tasty meals. Several real ales sampled and all were found to be excellent.
|
Good range of beers reasonably priced, friendly atmosphere, well prepared food from an interesting and varied menu. Unspoilt building and pleasant garden.

Excellent good old fashioned country pub, with a warm welcome. Lovely garden. Beautiful rural surrounding area. Food was superd and a great selection of well kept real ales were "sampled"
