The Rose and Crown, Upper Farringdon
Several years since I dined at this pub. A nice looking pub that hasn't changed much but is under different ownership. First thing waitress told us was that the there was only one chicken kiev left on the specials, and this was at 7.15. Ordered wine and the rump steak. The young waitress brought the wine but there was no offer of tasting. The bottle was left on table and not poured. The steak arrived. Good points being very hot plates and an excellent steak cooked medium rare as ordered. But.... the chips, described as home made, looked like badly cooked oven chips. They were soggy and probably the worst I have ever tasted - my local chippy does much, much better. Also on the plate was one tomato and one mushroom plus a few onion rings. 14.50 and very poor value. Still feeling hungry opted for the Farringdon cheesecake. Asked waitress if it came with cream or ice cream. She replied 'I am not sure but I don't think so'. I enquired if it would cost more for a scoop of ice cream and she replied Not sure but it probably would'. Anyway the (5) cheesecake turned up in a ramekin. Totally overpriced. Compared with similar pubs the food is overpriced and not what I would call good value for money. I shall not be returning.

Three Horseshoes, East Worldham
This pub has been under new ownership since the summer of 2008. Their meals are brilliant - and served up on hot plates. Would thoroughly recommend eating there. The only downside is that the bar prices are a bit on the high side.

Have been there twice now and both times have had fantastic meals. The staff are friendly and service good. Would thoroughly recommend a visit.
