Rude management

Just caught the end of the beer festival Saturday afternoon. With nine or ten ales to choose from I sampled six in third-pint glasses. Although kept in good condition (the beer that is - not me) only one was that tasty.
Bar staff and waitresses are very polite and friendly. Usual 'spoon' standard food, the spare ribs are good value and quite filling.
A good pub for Harlow!

Dont usually visit wetherspoon pubs but had a lunch meeting at this wetherspoons last week. Although the actual building isnt too attractive i was pleasently surprised when i ventured inside!! Nice cozy warm atmosphere (complete opposite to the weather outside) clean and staff all very happy and busy!!! Had a pint of "pigswill" which was great! The food arrived quickly and tasty!!!

Went in with a friend for lunch and after a few hours sightseeing for beer. Beer was excellent and the food is of a good standard. No problem with the decor and the fact it's in a tower block - Harlow is a new town after all.

One of the better Wetherspoons

Okay so it might not win any architectural awards or be in the most picturesque of locations to say the least, but once inside I found this to be a very pleasant and clean pub. Immediate, friendly service and the food came quickly and was of a good standard. Best set off well before you need the loo, though, it's a long walk!

Is th previous reviewer of the Puffball brigade (22 puffs and a sponge ball) I wonder? , my visit last night had me laughing, hearing the Essex Hard Boys, (aka AIRFIX GANGSTERS) trying to talk Welsh off the Conwy Brewery pump clip. On a serious note this beer must be ONE of the best that Tim has GREASY MITS ON, and served to perfection by our GARY. may the lovely GEM and her crew, continue the good work, and keep JDW,s the NUMBER 1 ale house in Harlow.

A souless pub in a souless town. This Wetherspoons is on the ground floor of a tower block. Outside it is not very inviting & inside pretty much the same. You enter through a central door & turn right for the bar & seating area. Left are more seats & comfy chairs. It is a very narrow long pub & reminds me of a library. Beer was OK but the staff seemed to echo the whole mood of the place.

Gemma is taking this pub from strength to strength, its a pity the gnomes of Watford dont give her full backing. Perhaps semtex up the back passage will help.

I would imagine you would take your life in your own hands going in here after dark.
Frightened us to death going in for breakfast. Most Wetherspoons seem to attract a certain clientelle, but this had more than its fair share.
Breakfast was first class and hot. Service and staff was good.

ok for real ales but sod all else, the food service in here is terrible at best. I have waited for food on a saturday for over an hour and then it still comes out cold. Bar staff are useless and the floor and tables are always dirty. If you are in harlow and need a pint of real ale this your place, if not go to Yates, the food is better and cheaper.

Its a wetherspoons but the abbot was warm and I waited 5 mins for service because the staff were busy talking to each other.
I rate it 4.

At last we have a Manager with passion for running what is basically the only Real Ale house in the town centre. Gemma is a lady who respects her clientelle and is happy to take on board any suggestions from her customers.

over the past 8 months this pub went from great to absolut crap now the old crew are back who seem to care about this place it should get back to the good old days although it may take some time as was destroyed by the previous management

The Christmas ales are not served too cold & very well kept. Youngs Christmas ale is particlarly good. Thank God Gemma is back from Braintree to sort out the mess left by the previous clowns!!

It's OK, though disappointed to see the local Squirrel beers seem to have gone; real ale OK but a degree too warm (strangely for Spoons). The noodle bar opposite is very good though.

The Pub offers the best range of Ales in the area. It's a shame most of the bar staff are too young to realise the benefits of ale.

The lads who work here are quite cheerful. Some of the girls are too. There were however a few not so bonnie lasses there that were positively ice-maidens and Ice n' beer don't mix. Teenage hormones, I'm guessing.

This is not a good pub by Wetherspoon standards AT ALL. It is however one of the best ale pubs in the area. The food's not so bad either. My advice, be prepared for a frosty bar service and you won't be dissapointed.

This, like all weatherspoon pubs is an absolute shithole. In just about every town in the country weatherspoon pubs are nearly always the worst, and best avoided. In Harlow, however, this is one of the better pubs. It's still a shithole of course, it's just that all of the other pubs in Harlow are even worse. It says more about Harlow than it says about this pub.
Avoid it if you can (both the pub and the town)

With all due respect, possibly Harlow's saving grace. Almost worth a visit to the soulless town centre just for the beer and the loos here (noodle place opposite looked good tho'). i'm surprised there's enough real ale turnover to maintain this standard, but Essex pubs are top of the league for quality.

When I used to live in Harlow, this was my local (it was literally stumbling distance from my place!) and it was cheap and cheerful. My flatmate used to work behind the bar and still liked to the frequent the pub on his nights off. The food is great value - I recommend the fish and chips, and I used to go to the Curry Night on a Thursday; excellent deal! Drinks are cheap and the ladies loo is huuuuge - yes, you could have a boogie in here and then sit down and have a rest on the settee in there (novelty)!

a typical weatherspoons pub offering very cheap drinks and food (woohoo). the pub itself i have visited on a few occasions throughout the day and in the evening and have always found it to be a bit messy. not dirty, but ashtrays need emptying and beer spillages wiped up. i do understand that its a busy place and the barstaff have hectic shifts but it could do with a clean. the toilets are spotless though and absolutely massive (well at least the ladies, i cant say i have visited the mens). i am not a huge fan of weatherspoons pubs in general because i like to have music in a pub, but this one is okay to have a few drinks in before going on somewhere else, if only for the low prices.

a nice, cheerful pub. once you walk in the door, you notice that the pub stems off to the left and right.
Left takes you to the designated non-smoking area (which is actually half of the pubs seated area) and right will take you towards the bar, and smoking section.

The locals, it seems, like to smoke, as finding a seat near the bar was impossible. a quick trip to the non-smoking area revealed several free tables.

eventually we found a table in the smoking area, and was delighted to find that, even on a busy friday night, the staff were still able to come and change the ashtrays on a regular basis, as well as collecting the empties (and not just the glasses).

Despite a lack of music, the william aylmer had a good atmosphere, allowing everyone to have a conversation without the need to screech like a irate chimpanzee.

the drinks were well priced, with a double vodka & mixer costing 1.99, and a pint costing no more than 2. this puts their prices lower than orange house, even taking into account the BOGOF offers.

Unlike Orange House, the William Aylmer has no pool tables, but does have an assortment of fruit machines and Cash quiz machines (like WWTBAM and Weakest Link).

The toilets themselves were well maintained, and surprisingly clean. They are possibly the only male pub toilets i have ever been in that havent smelt of stale urine. This, in my eyes, is worth of a gold star.
They are rather large and uncrowded, unlike many i have been to, with no real space issue, as well as plenty of sinks and hand driers.
Rumour has it that the ladies room has a setee, although i could discern this for myself without the aid of a dress.

the staff were very polite, and fairly intelligent by local standards) and didnt arse about when serving drinks.

Overall, i definately make a point of visting this pub the next time i'm in the area

great

A Wetherspoons pub, built in 2002; it packs no surprises, except perhaps for the extremely large and decorative toilets.
