user reviews of the Fleur De Lys, Lowsonford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I was expecting to find an uninspiring range of Greene King beers but fortunately they were selling Timothy Taylor Landlord a week ago so I stuck to that. The pub itself is a 15th century building with later alterations and additions. Situated next to the canal, it must be doing so well that they can afford to stop food service at 8pm even on a Friday. Good range of homemade pies on the menu so pub grub although some of the houses in the village suggest that a more gastro experience would be in keeping.

This is the third time we have been here over xmas & new year, have to say that the staff were very friendly, even having a joke with them, the food was as discribed, each time we tried something different to eat, & each time we were not disapointed, did'nt have to wait long for the food, plates taken away promply, & all together very well priced unlike some places. the log fire welcomed you & a good selection of beers & wine for the wife, looks a great place to come in the summer, & will be back very soon. looking at the previous reviews makes us think that the reveiwers have been to a different pub or may be just people with nothing better to do! Perhaps Mr Misery should stay down the farmers.

Visited many times during the summer until GMT. Always been a lovely location, an excellent positioned pub to enjoy beautiful country, in a verdant lush valley, with the cut running through it. Warwickshire is one of the best counties.

Most of the regular beers were good and reliable, and the few visiting ales I tried all good too

I love English and the British, for their invention, brewing, friendliness, brilliance and a sublime sense of humour. Theyre always offering advice, but when they get to know you, they will back you they would help anyone. Brilliant people, Im proud to be pure British and half English.

Bit disappointed that the Fleur has had a few negative pitches lately. With nothing really positive since 2010. It was once truly great, enormous renown.

I love that Stowford Press too, when I fancy a change never had a bad head with that fantastic stuff. The finest cider must come from Herefordshire.

I was disappointed with the smoking dope (weed), albeit in the smoking area, late summer. This should be a cracking country pub, not a crack house. And right in front of you too - under your nose.

Usually, if just one takes the trouble to comment, must be another 50 keep silent. Its really good business to have your customers leave, wanting more. But not for them to leave WANTING..!!

Take that good, kind, and friendly advise, from those kind, thoughtful, visitors. You should be either profit from it or get a crime number. Still got a way to go

Why not invite them back, and reconcile things.
Ill be seeing you soon.

I have returned to this pub quite regularly actually. I love it! Beautiful setting and a good pint. I would never eat there, though - over priced, inedible and unfriendly. Thought you must be a friend, Mario. Good luck with that!

pity you didn't ask as i know the 'manager' and he knows lots about keeping great beer and he doesn't drink lager? think your just one of those peolple who get their kicks whinging behind others backs! get a life you absolute loser !!!

Not completely convinced Mario. Visit FdL occasional, earlier this summer had an IPA, nothing complicated?
The pale ale was "off" took it back to the manager, initially reckoned theres nothing wrong with that. Oh really.!
Then admitted he knew nothing of ale, as a committed lager drinker.

So what was the nothing wrong crap about.? Poor service
RIGHT.
Hit-and-miss at best. Still got a long way to go.

This place was great back in the day. Certainly the location, architecture, fire places, canal side location are excellent. However, you want decent feedback - Treat your customers decent.

waht a shame some people can't see the wood for the trees! Great pub serving great real ales with a regular guest and absolutely smashing pies !

I like the setting of this pub and if you just want a pint and a packet of crisps it's fine. The Landlady, however, is the most unfriendly, unpleasant woman I've met. i asked if we could eat at the benches set by the canal, you'd think I'd asked for her head! She was very rude in the manner she spoke to me and stated that she wasn't going to argue with me - I wasn't arguing, I only asked a question! it was very embarrassing as I had brought friends with me for lunch there after a long walk to the pub. My friends could see no reason why we couldn't eat were we liked and made the comment about the very poor customer service. To cap it all the sandwiches we had at 5 a head were awful A less than fresh hamburger bap filled with taseless pap. My beef and horseradish tasted like tinned meat - rubbery and textureless. My friends were not impressed. I probably won't return - unless i'm in the mood for an argument!

Met up with friends at this pub for lunch last week. They sat outside on the lovely patio in the sun watching the narrow boats passing whilst I got the first round of 2 x wines and 2 x pints in and I got just over a pound in change out of 20.00 !! Then we ordered our meal. I remember when a Fleur Da Lys pie was 1/6d and really was something to shout about but sadly not now. Its small it has little or no filling and it sits in the middle of a large oval plate between a few sad vegetables and a small pile of chips and costs 9.95. We had to ask for gravy for something to taste as the food was so bland. There were not many punters at the pub this day and although it looked quite clean and tidy and the service was good the pie meal was sub-standard and both food and drinks very expensive. Cant afford to go there again . . . .

Really nice gastropub famous for serving Pieminister pies. We travel 15 miles to come here, but only when we want a meal, although they always have a couple of real ales on. Saying that I imagine it's lovely in summer with it's canal-side location and extensive garden.

Smart country village pub for even smarter country village dwellers the Fleur de Lys seems to aim itself squarely at families of diners, nearly all of the tables were reserved and clearly designed to accommodate it's food trade. The word is the standard of their pies is legendary. Edible certainly, but not quite in the mythic category. The ambience of the pub is strenuously tasteful, but also rather boring and stifling in it's appeal to the clans of 4x4 owners whose chariots are guarded by Labradors named Lance. Stand up drinkers like myself in search of something more convivial, and an adventure in beer tasting with some rough edges for atmosphere are advised to make the Fleur just a brief stopping off point - although it's nearest alternatives are all some miles away.

This is an excellent pub - beautiful location next to the canal, lovely garden and kids play area, good beer and very good food at a reasonable price.

It's the perfect location for a lazy weekend afternoon in the summer and we'll certainly be going back when we visit the area again.

Have eaten again at the Fleur in the new year, and it is good to see that the standards are still being maintained. Food once again was delicious, as was the beer, and i still think this is the best example of an proper english country pub that i have ever come across.

I visited the Fleur de Lys last week with a couple of my colleagues. I have never come across a better example of what I would call a proper english pub. Open fires, a canalside setting, superb beer, and proper pub grub. Absolutely loved it and will definitely be returning.

Went there last night with a colleague from work. Nice smoke free atmosphere as usual, beer was good, but food .....

Served to us by a disinterested waitress. accompanied by a grunt. The French onion soup was cold (not just less than hot) and the smoked haddock pie had seemingly no fish in it.

It's a tragedy when the food here used to be so good. I'm afraid that was my last visit to the place for a long time!

It was very busy when we went there... perhaps the secrets out!! Very good - smoke free/good food/lots of charm.
