After the Queen’s Head this was pub number 3 and the start of the pubs that don’t appear in the guide but were worth stopping in for a beer.
The Ship is an Adnams pub occupying a position on the High St, which obviously doesn’t have as many punters walking along as the front does.
2 ales on the 3 pumps which were Broadside and Southwold bitter. The Broadside was decent enough and certainly drinkable.
Old fashioned pub which is carpeted on 1 side then floor boarded throughout. Separate front bar and back, but it’s open plan so you can see through from the front to the back where tables are laid for food, there were a few people eating but I didn’t see or smell the food.

Pumps have ships painted on them and a few hand painted ship plates are hanging above the bar.
Not quite the same as the first 2 pubs I visited but it’s a tidy and friendly place and worthy of a stop.

This is a good traditional pub,with very friendly staff and good bar food.

Stayed in The Oyster Smack Inn down the road, but came out for a walk and having tried two other local pubs which were okay but not really doing for us we gave it one last shot and popped in here, very glad we did.
Friendly and what I would describe as an "old school" landlord we both had a ploughmans one cheese and one ham, both were excellent, highly recommend this pub.

Had lunch in here on Thursday with a friend. Food was pretty decent good value stuff (I had BBQ ribs (�8.95 I think) which you don't get everywhere.
Two beers from the Adnams collection were on, although there was a third unused handpump.
Good pub area inside and also a slightly more formal eating area. As you can see there are seats out the front.
A decent pub but nothing to get too excited about. Wanted to visit The Star but was closed at lunchtime.

I'm afraid I don't agree with the last comment. This is the best pub in BoC, great food, excellent Landlord staff and a good mix of locals (all ages) and tourists. It doesn't matter that it's not on the riverside as you get a better type of customer here.
Sit out the front and just watch the world go by.
I just wish that I lived nearer.

I know the last post was made about 2.5 years ago - but even then The Ship was not overlooking the waters edge; its on the High Street.
Very much a young person's pub that does good pub grub; it gets very busy at weekends, particularly in the summer - because of the nearby River Crouch.

A nice pub, with a good outside seating area, overlooking the waters edge. The beer here is well kept, and they've usually got a guest ale or two on.
A lovely place to visit on a sunny day, and if you like a walk - the journey from here to Fambridge along the estuary to the "Ferry Boat Inn" is well worth it.
