Never go back they say. I tried all of the Three Tuns beers as well as the guest Wye Valley HPA over the course of last weekend and none were much better than average. Plus they served my wife a beef lasagne instead of a veggie one and didn't tell us when booking that they had a wedding reception upstairs.

Especially liked the 1642 and XXX. Lots of character and characters from both locals and passing trade.
Beer supplied by the adjoining Three Tuns brewery. Food is very good and very reasonable.

A truly historic pub. The pub, together with the adjoining Three Tuns Brewery, has been on this site since the 1640’s. The brewery is now under separate ownership, but it still supplies all the pub's beer. Good pint of 1642 and XXX sampled.
Pub is split into four rooms. On one side is the "dining" lounge on the other, the ever popular front bar leading to the central characterful snug and the extended timber framed glass sided dining room.
Decent service. Also doggy friendly!

Well worth a visit. Great beer from the adjoining brewery. Especially liked 1642 and XXX. Nice bar area that seems to attract local and passing trade. Food was very good.
Agree with the review below in that this seems to be more of a food than beer place these days, but I do love the little bar area that you get to from the right hand door from the road and we always end up in there instead. The beers were all on good form this last weekend with the stout, mild, Clerics Cure and 1462 all tried and all enjoyed. Couldn't get in for food on this occasion, but will be back again soon.

Very busy with more of a restaurant than a pub feel. No communal atmosphere, therefore; the sense is more of a number of individual gatherings. Didn't try the food but there was a wide choice and the meals being brought out were well presented. The barstaff were briskly efficient and I can't fault the beer having tried each of the brews from next door.
Impressive. Great ale from adjoining brewery. Especially liked the XXX. Food was excellent and prices reasonable. Bar staff could be a little more hospitable though.
Pub with a lot of character, next to the brewery, with different sections catering for locals and visitors. Outstanding ale and great food.
According to our landlady, the only pub in town that is not a freehouse apparently even though the same-named brewery is next door. That might explain why the brewery tap is in nearby Ratlinghope. The food and beer were excellent and this was our pick of all the town's pubs.
Great pint of 1642 while on a ride last week. Perfect example of a beer that doesn't need to be strong in order to be tasty. Food looked nice too, lots of people eating.
Seven of us had a very enjoyable lunch stop on a circular walk from Wentnor. Clerics Cure, 1642, XXX and Stout were all tried by various members of the party and all declared very fine. The food was good and service friendly. Marvellous place.
Nice old pub. XXX was very nice indeed. Only a short visit, had a friendly feel to the place, even the local lady vicar was in there.
Ate here several times in the holiday, and none of us had a bad meal or experience of any kind. Very good all round.
Walked down Salop Street opened the first of the pubs two doors onto the street, came face to face with the ancient fireplace with the bar to the left. For me this is the best part of the pub.
The XXX and the Clerics Cure are on fine form and sitting in the window seat taking in the atmosphere is what it's all about at the moment.
To the right the passage leads through to a more modern and clean pub area leading onto a dining area looking out over the pub/brewery yard.
The second door down the hill opens into a more modern version but nicely done bar equally relaxing and pleasantly done out.
This is a place for everyone, very enjoyable.

Back again on the annual 'pilgrimage' and nothing has changed, thank goodness. This pub still doing everything well, perfect pub, perfect staff, perfect beer and perfect food - the steaks are the best i've ever had. Keep up the good work.
For some not the pub it once was but still very good. The beer is good ,mostly pale in colour. The staff are efficient and generally friendly.Overall the food is good .This place never lets you down and sometimes hits some highs.Check out the Friday happy hour (5 to 7) with complementary sausage and chips.
Truly excellent. Discovered this place on holiday in the area last week. Beautiful building; superb food; splendid ales from the brewery next door (partner loved the XXX); great atmosphere; friendly service. Couldn't ask for more.
Probably one of the best brewery/gastro pubs in the country. They just about do everything right. Excellent and friendly staff, beautiful sensitive interior. Very good food (the steak is excellent) superb real ale brewed by themselves. Tried all the beers and they were all good, but prefered the weakest - the 1642

Back again, having not been for a while. It's still just as good as my last visit. Just goes to show that Britains really good pubs are thriving, keep up the good work all of you - this pub's a true gem
This really IS just about as good as a great British Pub gets! Faultless.
Excellent pub - a must if you visit Bishops Castle. Extended out the back but has kept the old front to go with the new. Beers are excellent - the XXX from the brewery was my favourite, described as malty sweet but found the hops coming through quite strong. Tried a 1642 but not quite as good and the Clerics Cure was fine at the stronger end. Food was good too.
What more can I add to the other great reviews? Nice and clean, modern interior, great choice of beers made on the premises. The food is some of the best gastro food we've ever tasted, all 3 courses were excellent. The staff professional friendly and efficient. All this and dog friendly in all areas of the pub (which is rare.) It really does not get much better than this! Bishops Castle really is underrated and this pub is a gem.
Proper old fashioned bar, more modern restauranty side. Not eaten here but the ales brewed in the seperate brewery at the rear are, frankly, as good as they get. Only disappointing aspect is the tired, unkempt garden. They could do so much more with this, but it is a minor quibble.
Jules ,I have read your other reviews on Bishop castle pubs. Must admire your staying power. The last time I visited the Three Tuns ( after a visit to the Bishops Castle Hotel ) my legs had ideas of their own. Thankfully my hotel was close by. Nice to know the place has not changed to much.
Finished off at this superb homebrew pub after sampling beers in the previous five, at the 2009 Bishops Castle beer festival. A superb high standard of beer quality, this is a must for anyone visiting this lovely little town.
Excellent ales brewed in the adjoining brewery that has been on site since 1642. Cleric's Cure, XXX, 1642 bitter and a seasonal brew Solstice were all sampled. The XXX is the best of a tasty selection of light, hoppy beers.4 pint jugs are available. Two large rooms, and the dining area overlooks the brewery. All in all, a very pleasant experience.
Been here loads of times. Decent food at reasonable prices - proper chefs work here. Decent people both sides of the bar. Hubby used to say their own ale was "idiosyncratic" and "tasted too new" - now he can't get enough of the XXX. Nicely styled bars. Bishops Castle has a lot of interesting shops for a small town. Altogether a place for pilgrims. Go there.

A truly great find in the beautiful hropshire hills. This i what you would call a genuine food pub, NOT one of the overpriced, trendy "gastropubs" just a genuine Pub getting things right. Top quality food all freshly produced. They seem to buy everthing locally as well which is always a plus. Great menu, great staff and great beer from the adjoining Three Tuns Brewery
The brewery and the pub buildings have had extensive makeovers by the new owners, but this is still a superb pub, serving some excellent home brewed beers. Support a true independent and drink here.
Excellent beer and good food too. Beer garden unfinished at present and had an agressive sweary man bragging about who he beat up recently. Seemed to live in a little flat that backs onto the garden. Can he be evicted???

Great pub with brewery atttatched.never been let down here ,for beer/food/service.always a nice treat, great days out her when the folk singers etc are on.good day out ,in al respects.
Been here several times over the years and the micro-brewery beer has always been excellent. The refurbished pub is a big improvement and seems to be a lot more popular now.
Another of bishops castles finest, had a great day there, when the music festival was on.and all topped off with good food/beers.Hope the revamp is going well

This is an attractive pub serving its own micro-brewed beer which was very good. It has an attactive beamed interior and serves food. There were free sausages were on the bar on my visit (6:30pm Friday).
