A real nice pub, affable barman /landlord made the visit enjoyable. Good beer (both selection and quality and good food completed the package.

I lived in Kingsbury during the late 70's and very early 80's. I went back in here the other day when I was in the area. The bar has been moved other than that it's still basically the same. Beer was good but no trad cider!!!

We found this pub by accident on our way from London to Exeter and what a find! We stopped for lunch, the food was good, hearty fare (think pie, fish and chips, roast pork) and my husband says the ale choice was above average. But what really made this pub for us was the warm welcome. The barman was good value with great local knowledge, provided a high chair and plenty of smiles to entertain our 5 month old. The place was pretty busy for a Friday lunchtime and he made time for a chat with everyone who came to the bar. A great little pub just off the A303, we will definitely be back.

Traditional village pub, the beer, Butcombe was very nice and the landlord / barman pleasant. Food seemed good, but didnt try it myself. Cosy atmosphere and pleasant clientelle

A return visit whilst driving through the area, Landlord still the same old character, Sunday locals popping in all very friendly. had a good pint of cider and the Butcombe was aok also. Always a charming place to visit and, remember during the earlier part of last year on a night time visit, it was heaving with people dining and the band playing. My friends first ever visit rated it very highly in all aspects.

My first appearance at this pub occurred last weekend, on a rather superb crawl of numerous Beer-Guide-listed hostelries in the general North Somerset area. The Wyndham offers an almost Cotswold-style picture-postcard exterior, which exudes centuries of history, and the interior matches perfectly, adorned with all kinds of traditional bric-a-brac, breweriana, and of course, a vast log fire which yields very welcome heat on a chilly Autumn day. Only a few locals could be found clustering around the bar, although in fairness this was 5PM on a Sunday afternoon which is rarely a country pub's highpoint for trade. The licensee was a slightly hippy-ish but laidback character, who seemed to have grown into the place well and was clearly well-liked by regulars. Ale selection was wide-ranging acorss 5 pumps, including 1 cask cider (Ashton Press Still), although the beers weren't especially unusual in this area, where so many splendid pubs dispense such a wide range of local offerings). Conditioning was good on my choice, but my chum's Butcombe was variable. Probably unlucky. Food was plainly in evidence although neither being served nor required at the time of our emergence, so no comment can be offered on that front.
All in all a friendly and charming pub with much to commend it, albeit perhaps not on the exceptional lines of of some of its nearby neighbours.

Had a very pleasant and well cooked sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago. the real ales have always been decent here. But have never seen the place full. A nice village and pub, well worth going. Can't say really anything bad in my visits or experiences. Perhaps the locals no better ?.

Two visits recently on a friday (pub packed) and Tuesday (pub near empty) this week. 4 hand pumps dispensing Butcombe, Doom Bar, Moor Merlins Magic and Yeovil Ruby, which was excellent. Some people eating the food looks above average but I tend not to eat in pubs often. It is worrying that pubs are so quiet midweek. It is the tail end of January though so this is their "dead" period. A good village freehouse, shame the village doesn't use it more in the week.

Sort of no nonsense type of place. The food is fine, basic pub food, and the beer is adequate.
|
Just a very ordinary village pub. Good beer, reasonable food and a nice welcome. What more do you expect?

this place has gone off, big time. used to be a great music and ale venue, with half decent food. changed management and recently has been dreary.

Wonderful village pub, that offers wide range of beers and also the head spinning burrow hill cider, which @ 1.60 a pint is great value. Excellent selection of meals at reasonable prices and to cap it all an upstairs function room that plays host to regular blues bands throughout the year. All in all highly recommended.
