Hole in the Wall, Bristolback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
A bland sort of place, plenty of space indoors & out, in fact this was one of the few pubs this trip where I drank al fresco. Usually avoid this practice, not needing more sun, not being a smoker, and not happy being asked for loot by beggars. My pint of Butcombe (3.40) was fine, but I cannot remember anything about the place to make it memorable.

Hard to judge as it was quiet and early on a Tuesday evening when I visited, but it seemed to lack atmosphere and the atmosphere was dead. Service was ok, but no better. Beer was ok, bit not that well kept. Enjoyed a couple of pints of South Island but then it was off and the alternatives weren't very good. The proper chips were fantastic though, perhaps a better place to eat than to drink?

Went there this bank holiday, I used to love this place. But customer service is terrible now, went to order our drinks. We stood there like idiots waiting for a cosmopolitan. Every time we asked a new and silly answer, finally when we decided to sit down 10 or 15 min later they went to the table to say they didn't have one of the liquor. Ok. Fine... Time to order the food. Went back to the bar, staff were running around. Nobody waiting apart from us. They didn't even acknowledged we were there. No need to say we left. I wrote on their Facebook account my complaint. What did they do? Erased the comment immediately. Appalling !!

A good sized pub at the edge of Queens Square, with good views across to Redcliffe Church. Its been re-modelled many times over the years, and now has a slightly chain feel to it, but its a pleasant enough place even if it hasnt got much in the way of genuine character.
The main bar area has wood laminate flooring, a couple of sofas and some unusual tables made out of old beer barrels with a copper top. To the left was another bar, this one with slate flooring and a stone fireplace. To the right, a narrow carpeted room runs along the front of the pub with a sofa at the far end, and behind this, a larger open room more geared up for dining. The decor was the usual shade of gastropub green paint, and there were some exposed stone walls. Upstairs is more seating and another bar, although this had the feel more of a restaurant and was apparently not in use on a recent Monday night visit. A table by the large windows gives good views of the river and church. There also a decent amount of outside seating, although you get the feeling of being stuck in the middle of a traffic island with cars whizzing around in all directions.
Beers on tap were Fullers Summer Ale, Butcombe and 6X. Ciders were Aspalls Suffolk, Strongbow and (fortunately) Ashton Press. A black board listed the coming soon beers.

First visit to this pub and will definitely return. Ordered a pint of Addlestone cider (roughly 3.20) before which I was offered a taster as I'd never tried it (excellent bar service!)... very tasty cider indeed. Joined friends who had already eaten, all of whom raved about their food. Environment was lively as expected for a Saturday night, but it was light, not too loud and although a chilled out pub, it was more 'upmarket' than some other traditional pubs. Well worth a visit for food and drink.

I either i'm reviewing too quickly , or we could with a few more reviewers in Briz . anyway xmas meal here last week , which to be honest wasn't too great started with pate , i've tasted better corn beef . steak quite good but lacked a few extra's ie onions, the chips I could have counted ,a very small tomato only . drinks well from the real ale angle only butcombe whilst quite well kept , ran out quite early . so i had to drink the alternative lp. ok but only just ,drops to 5/10.

Strongbow a good choice of cider? but that said probably the best the pint of butcombe i've drunk for a while ,and i certainly had a few on friday , better butcombe than in the colston yard

As others have said, it really has the feel of a restaurant than a pub these days, although there is some useful outside seating in the "garden" (ie; the patch of grass in front the pub). Quite nicely done out though in typical gastropub style. Good choice of ciders on tap - Strongbow, Addlestones and Aspalls Suffolk plus London Pride and Butcombe Beers. The barman was very reluctant to top up my (wife's) lager, claiming that "lager's are always served with a head, sir". Maybe so, but by the time the rest of the drinks had been served the head had gone and I was left with liquid some way from the top of the glass. In the end he only flicked a few more drops in just to give it another head rather than really topping it up.

not sure what you lot are on about. Food was good, service was attentive, delivery of food was excellent and the beer was better than expected.
|
Not bad . beers tim t ,and butcombe only , my mate says the addlestones was in good nick , a very emphasis on food , rather than drinks , really a restaurant that sells alcohol , rather than a pub that sells food , the bar staff polite , but not friendly .

I was VERY disapointed with this pub. We visited yesterday hoping to have an enjoyable meal. The food took an hour and 25 minutes to get to us, that was after we had complained twice and had to give our order again. Even then they tried to deliver us the wrong food!! When we complained to the staff they were rude and made us feel like we were in the wrong for complaining! We were offered a complimentary coffee but the staff refused to let us have a liquer put in it (the very least they could do i thought). I will NEVER visit this pub again.

Update.
The Timmy Taylor landlord was "ok" here the other night. Liverpudlian girl was pleasant enough.

Got absolutely PASTED in the local paper,THE EVENING PISSPOOR,foodwise, drinkwise and everyotherway-wise a few months ago. Anytime I was here the ale, usually Spitfire, was rubbish.

i bought a drink at this pub today for my wife and i, we neded somewhere to sit and feed our 18month old daughter.
the self proclaimed owner came to our table and told us in the most agresive and rude way i have ever been spoken to that we could not feed our child here, she is tiny and is very fussy about her food, we had yet to order food for ourselves.
my wife explained our ituation yet the owner told us to do as she said because it it her property and she can do as she pleases, i qoute" it doesn't work that way darling..this is my property and you do what i say."
this womed was so agressive, she physically took our drinks from us and poured them away in front of us, then told us to get out.
we obviously will never go there agin i would urge you to also boycott this establishment.

Rather warm pint of TT Landlord sampled here on sunday, very nice decor though as previously mentioned and friendly service.several foreign beers too 2 sample. 8/10

Decor in the pub is really good, a real shame the food and service doesn't follow suit. I can see this being a really nice venue in the future, but they seem to be experiencing some teething problems.
|
If you like real ale don't bother. Otherwise it's a great pub.

My wife and I ate here yesterday. The pub was fairly busy, but they managed to burn our food twice. By this I don't mean a pedantic 'little bit over done', but a 5mm black crust on a burger! We were left thoroughly depressed afterwards particularkly considering that it took them over an hour and a half to bring us even partially edible food. We were not impressed and shall not be visiting again next time we are in the Bristol area.

Great historic pub - used to work there!
