A bland sort of place, plenty of space indoors & out, in fact this was one of the few pubs this trip where I drank al fresco. Usually avoid this practice, not needing more sun, not being a smoker, and not happy being asked for loot by beggars. My pint of Butcombe (3.40) was fine, but I cannot remember anything about the place to make it memorable.

Hard to judge as it was quiet and early on a Tuesday evening when I visited, but it seemed to lack atmosphere and the atmosphere was dead. Service was ok, but no better. Beer was ok, bit not that well kept. Enjoyed a couple of pints of South Island but then it was off and the alternatives weren't very good. The proper chips were fantastic though, perhaps a better place to eat than to drink?

Went there this bank holiday, I used to love this place. But customer service is terrible now, went to order our drinks. We stood there like idiots waiting for a cosmopolitan. Every time we asked a new and silly answer, finally when we decided to sit down 10 or 15 min later they went to the table to say they didn't have one of the liquor. Ok. Fine... Time to order the food. Went back to the bar, staff were running around. Nobody waiting apart from us. They didn't even acknowledged we were there. No need to say we left. I wrote on their Facebook account my complaint. What did they do? Erased the comment immediately. Appalling !!

A good sized pub at the edge of Queens Square, with good views across to Redcliffe Church. Its been re-modelled many times over the years, and now has a slightly chain feel to it, but its a pleasant enough place even if it hasnt got much in the way of genuine character.

The main bar area has wood laminate flooring, a couple of sofas and some unusual tables made out of old beer barrels with a copper top. To the left was another bar, this one with slate flooring and a stone fireplace. To the right, a narrow carpeted room runs along the front of the pub with a sofa at the far end, and behind this, a larger open room more geared up for dining. The decor was the usual shade of gastropub green paint, and there were some exposed stone walls. Upstairs is more seating and another bar, although this had the feel more of a restaurant and was apparently not in use on a recent Monday night visit. A table by the large windows gives good views of the river and church. There also a decent amount of outside seating, although you get the feeling of being stuck in the middle of a traffic island with cars whizzing around in all directions.

Beers on tap were Fullers Summer Ale, Butcombe and 6X. Ciders were Aspalls Suffolk, Strongbow and (fortunately) Ashton Press. A black board listed the coming soon beers.

First visit to this pub and will definitely return. Ordered a pint of Addlestone cider (roughly 3.20) before which I was offered a taster as I'd never tried it (excellent bar service!)... very tasty cider indeed. Joined friends who had already eaten, all of whom raved about their food. Environment was lively as expected for a Saturday night, but it was light, not too loud and although a chilled out pub, it was more 'upmarket' than some other traditional pubs. Well worth a visit for food and drink.
