Two room pub situated at the end of a cul-de-sac. I was in shortly after opening time on a weekday and there was only one other customer in the lounge at the rear. I sat in the small bar at the front. Ales were Sharps Doom Bar, Ludlow Gold, Bass, Everards Mad Hatter's Tea Party & Phipps NBC Red Star. The cider was Addlestones. It's difficult to judge a pub when it's so quiet. But this seemed a nice enough place.

New landlord now in, much friendlier atmosphere, beers in good condition, stupid notices that were meant to be funny & weren't have gone. A much improved pub.

The landlord is leaving so that things might improve at this pub which should offer so much and doesn't

Walked up from town to have a look at this place. It seemed a bit strange thet the front half of the pub was empty and the back quite busy. Seemed friendly enough and the Pedigree was passable.

Just moved into the area and checked BITE and thought this might be a good candidate for my local.

After getting the general impression that it was an awful lot of trouble for them bother to serve me a pint and a half I was disappointed with both the Tribute and Landlord neither of which seemed well kept.

Went back to try a London Pride and another Landlord (giving it a second chance) and some pork scratchings and then had to argue to get the brand of scratchings that I wanted because the wanted to give me "the older ones". And the same problem with the beer.

Dont think I'll be bothering going back and will look for a "local" in Stafford centre. 3/10

Had the misfortune to breakdwon on the M6 and by chance landed at tbis pub. What a splendid little pub. Clean, tidy, freindly staff, very good beer and food. Only negative was the landlady had a face like a slapped arse. Persune someone had annoyed her as all other staff including the landlord were excellent.

Not good when we visited. The regulars gave the impression that we were not at all welcome in their pub and two of the beers were decidedly tired. Didn't try any others and moved rapidly on to much better pubs in the area.

A bit of a trek (by foot) from the station but worth it I reckon.

Again I found many 'Cambridge-standard' beers as standards as regulars in here - London Pride, Black Sheep, Pedigree, Tribute and Tiger. All good ales but I wanted something more unusual. I had a pint of Dartmoor Best Bitter which was fine. I did want a couple at that place but the 'familiar' nature of the standard ales made me move on sooner than I'd wanted.

My annual visit to Stafford for The National Poultry Show saw me once again making a beeline for The Spittal Brook. Not quite as busy as last year. Is this the recession? A lot of custom anyway.

Usual friendly and welcoming reception. This pub has a stack of board games in one corner and bookcases full of books lining the walls. Once a month there is a cheese night where regulars vie with each other to provide unusual and rare cheeses to sample. Beers on tap were.

Tribute....from The St Austell Brewery
Fullers London Pride..... from Chiswick
Fireside... from Morlands, now a subside iary of G.K.

All the beers were in excellent condition. Which I think all recognise as the norm for this superb watering hole.

Multi roomed old fahioned pub which is well worth the trek out of town. A good selection of ales (including a good pint of Black Sheep which I find doesn't seem to 'travel' well out of Yorkshire). A proper pub with proper beer.

Excellent traditional pub with very good value food. Five ales on and one cider. I had Everards Tiger, not a usual choice for me but a very well kept pint and thoroughly enjoyable. Locals were friendly and the staff lively and pleasant. Garden was spacious and well appointed.

This is a must for any Stafford pub crawl and well worth spending an evening in.

What a wonderful pub.Well kept selection of real ales, with Harviestoun's Bitter and Twisted guesting and top quality. The pub grub is wholesome, tasty and good value .This is a real community boozer with a friendly welcome for strangers and is a hive of activity even at lunchtime. There is an informal library of popular books for locals, and lots of conversation with no extraneous noise.Great beer garden .A real hub of the local community, this is what all small pubs should be aiming for.The good people of Stafford are very lucky to have this gem.

My mother-in-law lives within five minutes of this pub which makes my failure to visit it in the past seven years even more disgraceful. I liked it a lot, and wasn't surprised it is the pub of the year for its CAMRA area. It has two rooms (I think - I only went in the front room) and is refreshingly unmodernised. Six or seven real ales; Pride, Black Sheep and Tiger were all on when I visited, as was Hooky Gold - I had two pints and it was well-served. If I had a criticism it would be of a slightly unimaginative ale selection - all available nationally and little in the way of microbrewery product. A good pub though.

This is a great pub. Very busy when I was in on a Friday and Saturday night. Excellent pints of Black Sheep, Everards Tiger, Adnams Explorer & Fullers London Pride.

Smokers not forgotten here. There is a purpose brick built smoke room in the garden which was comfortable and had Christmas decorations. We didn't try the food but there were many people eating which is always a good sign.

The Spittal Brook was voted pub of the year 2008 by the local CAMRA branch. Deservedly a very popular pub.

This is one of the best pubs in Stafford. A poper ale house. Good beer and food. The management runs the pub perfectly.

this is a lovely public house, i cannot fault the comments made above. the quiz nights are superb, gallon of ale for the winners,2pints the runners up and a bar of chocolate for the losers (lowest score stands so far at 6!) you have to remember its petes pub, petes quiz.if you dont like it there are plenty of others drinking establishments in the town. no pool, telly or juke box.town again.
regulars-friendly, staff-same. perhaps i shouldnt sing its praises too much, everyone will go just to have a nosey!

Smashing little boozer, two bars, Good home cooked food - basic steaks, burgers, pies, salads, lasagne etc - but very reasonable and well cooked & presented by chef - Carl. Superb range of ales (+guest ale) all well kept and tasty. Lovely log fires for the winter, enclosed well-planted garden for summer - if you dont mind the 125 from Euston every few minutes. Also has huge library to chose from and return books to and a good selection of board games & dartboard. Hub of the community with Quiz & Folk music nights and regular charity functions, also bizarrely has wedding license. Only downside is rather pungent gents loo - use side entrance to avoid whiff. Friendly staff, everyone is made welcome local or not.
