Country pub situated on a crossroads of lanes in a dip. It seems to be largely food-dominated. Although I think there were people other than ourselves there just for a drink. It has a number of small rooms, making for a cosy atmosphere. Service was strange as the guy serving didn''t seem to have any clue about what they were selling or how to ring it up on the till. I guess he was just restaurant waiting staff, as he handed the round to another lady. I was surprised to see a Hall & Woodhouse pub in this part of the country. But predictably, the ale selection was Badger Best Bitter, Fursty Ferret & Union Joker. A pumpclip for Rosie''s Pig cider was turned round. There is plenty of brochures and information for the nearby Blackdown Hills, which appears to be popular walking territory. There are tables at the front and there is also a large car park at the side.

Popped in here for a quick fruit juice with a friend, She opted for a starter off the menu, I abstained. didn't like the look of the starter myself but, bit my lip. Place seemed to be full of the pretentious crowd of hooray henrys sauntering around with wine bottles in hand and, rather loud raucous volumes of nonsense. Didn't appeal 4 years ago an still doesn't. The what I thought were locals were squeezed into the corners or left, Still nil point pour moi.

We went to this pub yesterday evening. Having read the reviews I was a bit concerned that it was going to be an overpriced disappointment. I should not have worried. The staff were charming, the food first rate and the prices very reasonable. My only comment is that the portions were too generous. We had three courses and a very pleasant bottle of wine and the bill was just over 50 very good value. We will certainly return.

really pretty pub both inside and out, good pint although rather strange that its sussex ale in somerset, but very nice. Has more of a hotel feel and prices to match.

Good looking pub in nice location,Then it's all down hill,The plethora of wall mountings and beams were coated in dust and cobwebs, quite a contrast from ground level. The wine very nice ,the 3 courses that followed were an overpriced disgrace..
My breaded white bait was dark brown and, jumped of the plate when attempting to put the fork in,It's salad was something i'd just purchased from the supermarket exactly the same and no dressing.
The Greyhound Paella was a yellow gritty stodge adorned with 3 prawns just defrosted and laid a top, 4 see through slices of Chorizo, and 8 small and varying sized chicken pieces..oh yes some peppers and onions.
Summer fruit pudding and custard,it was warm on the outside and icy cold on the inside, was this another microwave job....
I told the waitress about the paella but, nothing came of it,on paying the begrudged bill the landlady i assume asked about the pudding i told her and she commented that it had just come out of the fridge, Did you pour your custard on it,no i did not and i'v left it for you to see.
Results.. this is very below average cooking with sky high prices, nothing was obviousley tasted and checked before leaving the kitchen, perhaps the cook should be checked and leave..Dire experience for the price

This pub seems to concentrate more on the food side of things than the drinking side. However the bar is great, with good beers and a nice atmosphere, and the restaurant is too stuufy and overprices. In other words, o.k. for a drink, not so good for a meal.

This pub seems to do a strong restaurant business, but I'm not sure why. The food was good, but not great. I much preferred the bar and the ale.

Really good pub, currently doing a very good trade in food. The staff are certainly the best in the area.

We tried this pub as it's in 'Sawdays' and recommended by a neighbour. The menu (tiny blackboards) was off putting & badly written. The vegetarian selection was limited. The food was below average - my 'chilli pancake' was bland, a rolled up tortilla with a drizzle of chilli, for 10, overpriced. My husbands gammon was disappointing, we left most of our food. This is a great shame, the pub has a great reputation and the staff are friendly, but the food is dreadful and over priced. I am sorry to say, we won't go back.

i used 2 work there and the food is brill the atmosphere is lovely definately a fine pub!!!

It's not actualy part of a chain - it's leased from a brewery, so is it's own "boss" if you like.

It's part of a chain now, but still manages to retain it's individuality, which must irritate the bean counters at H.Q. It's a few miles out of town but certainly worth the effort if you're after a pleasant evening in nice surroundings. Beer, food, service and environment all very nice,
