The Mandeville Arms, Hardington Mandeville
Went there on Saturday with two friends. Lovely place and friendly staff but after that it was downhill all the way. Should have guessed by lack of customers on a Saturday night ! Firstly they had run out of draught cider (a must for a Somerset pub). Meal choice was very limited, about half of what was offered on the printed menu outside the door. Three of us chose rabbit to be then told they had run out of this - rather strange as we were the first diners that evening. There followed a passable meal of pub fare but at inflated restaurant prices. When we came to pay we were told that the card machine was out of action and had been for some time. Fortunately, our friends had enough cash and I had thought to bring my cheque book. However, I would have thought it would have been a good idea to warn me when I originally booked, or to at least mention it when we arrived. I have a feeling that there is definitely something wrong here.

We went to this pub yesterday evening. Having read the reviews I was a bit concerned that it was going to be an overpriced disappointment. I should not have worried. The staff were charming, the food first rate and the prices very reasonable. My only comment is that the portions were too generous. We had three courses and a very pleasant bottle of wine and the bill was just over 50 very good value. We will certainly return.
