Taken over by John and Becky from Hall and Woodhouse and run as a free house until purchasing it and making it their own, to the delight of the locals in this charming village (if you ignore the oft heavy traffic) We sincerely hope it will remain at the standard they have set for themselves. Now in the GBG where I believe it will be a fixture, as it deserves to be. Very nice skittle alley and function room, rare Dorset game of Drubbers also played.

Very disappointed with this establishment. I took my grandchildren for the walk advertised by the Brewery. Really good walk that was just over two hours. Needless to say we were all hungry and thirsty when we had finished our walk. I took the children into the pub and ordered some soft drinks that came to just over £11. There were about six people in the pub and no one whatsoever in the back garden which had at least ten tables. I asked the landlord if we could sit discreetly in the back garden and eat a sandwich we had brought with us. He said "I'd rather you didn't" so we went into the field where we had started our walk and ate there. I realise the pub is there to make a living but I am a pensioner and thought the landlord might show some kindness and let us just sit and eat our sandwich as there wasn't anyone around to see. I could of sat at the back without asking but that's not in my nature. A little kindness would have gone a long way but what a disappointment!! I certainly will not recommend this place to my friends or go there again myself. Please take note anyone going on the Brewery walk. Maxine Hawker

New landlord and lady and great new chef. They are just trying to rebuild the reputation of this delightful country pub and they are doing well in our eyes. As locals we popped in today - Sunday - to try out the new menu etc.. Good enough starter we shared. excellent main each - my wife's chicken roast was too much for her so both me and dog had a bonus. And if you like desserts - homemade and not Brake Bros homemade then don't miss the delights Carl, the new chef, specialises in. Why only 9/10 - just a bit off my favourite mouth-burning temperature - but the pub was busy....
A local from Longburton.... looking forward to my/our next scoff...

Having just returned from Afghanistan me and my two mates, went for a well deserved pub crawl through the Dorset countryside. Totally by accident we came across The Rose and Crown with its warm, friendly atmosphere, roaring fire, notable absence of TVs showing sport and the warm welcome everyone gets, its fair to say "nothing beats a good old traditional pub, beating at the heart of the community"
We arrived at lunchtime and left the following morning, to our delight the pub served great home produced food by a very cheerfull ex Army Chef, great beer (Fox and Firkin) and a B & B at the back of the pub.
All in a great pub, great staff and looking foward to visiting again very soon.

Our Granddaughter was christened yesterday at the church next door and the celebration meal was held in the pub. We were made very welcome and the food was excellent - beautifully presented and plenty for everyone, so different to our Grandson's christening 3 years previously when the landlord was disinterested, there was not enough food for our guests and what was there was uninviting and tasteless. So glad our son and daughter-in-law decided to try once more with the new people (Kevin & Mandy), we will certainly be returning for an evening meal soon.

Great pub, friendly and helpful staff.Great food and atmoshere

Kevin & Mandy have, after a difficult 10 months breathed fresh air back into what was, a stale atmosphere and stagnant welcome with a host of events, which have brought back the sense of involvement of the community.
The beer is kept very well with a menu which serves good pub grub, complimented by a Specials Board for that "something different."
Long may it last.

My fiancee and i have recently moved to Longburton and it is a beautiful village. Not only that but a little gem of a pub called the Rose and Crown is in the same village. Seasonal local produce wonderfully cooked by the landlord, landlady and their staff. A warm welcome especially for our little dog with some cracking ales and ciders, Firkin Fox and Stowford press to name a couple. Family run with a great atmosphere and wonderful hosts in Kev and Mandy, i find it very difficult to say anything negative about this little cracker, well worth a visit if you want value for money and a good pint.

Last time we visited this pub the landlords were very inhospitable so we went when we heard new ones had arrived. The new decor is great, really back to 'country pub' feel. Everyone friendly and keen to make sure you are happy. Food was good. Nice atmosphere and plenty of people around.

had a delicious home cooked lunch here. definately a change from 'prick and ping'. the beer was spot on too. hope the landlady delivered safely...

my partner and i stayed here on 30th july 2011 and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. the B & B rooms have recently been decorated and are extremely spacious. the rooms are located in a seperate annex from the pub which is ideal as you don't get the noise from the pub. being a country pub i was expecting it to be fairly quiet even on a saturday but was suprised by how many locals were in. there was a very warm and friendly atmosphere especially from the landlord & landlady, so much so that we intended popping in for a nightcap and ended up staying in the pub until closing time! we arrived towards the end of food service and we were disappointed we hadn't booked in for an evening meal as the food looked wonderful. we are in the area again in september and booked it straight away as i'm sure they will get many follow up bookings. for the breakfast we had a choice of cereals and full english breakfast which set us up for the day it was very tasty. all in all this is an ideal place to stay, beautiful area, warm and friendly, reasonable rates and we would highly recommend a stay here.

After visiting this pub last year & enjoying the friendly atmosphere & very good food, we thought we would take some friends for lunch here. Alas, it has new owners, who were in the Catering Corps, & don't you know it! A frosty reception occured as part of our party arrived a little early. The menu is now rather limited, food average & there is very little incentive to visit here, I'm sorry to say. As they used to say on my school report-could do a lot better!

My wife & I called in for lunch & received a friendly welcome. After a refreshing glass of cider (Stowford Press- why don't more pubs keep it?) we ordered our food. A wait was necessary as everything is freshly prepared but it was really worth it. My Seafood Platter was beautifully presented, included Crayfish Tails, Crab Meat, Mussels, Prawns & Salmon, & tasted as good as it looked. My wife had Breast of Duck with Vegetables & Garlic Potatoes which she really enjoyed. We both had a dessert- my wife had a Raspberry & Peach Trifle & I had Sticky Toffee & Date Pudding with Date Sauce & Custard. Both were delicious. I would recommend this Inn to anyone who is looking for "real" food & not the cardboard that is often served at mass catering establishments. Well done, all at the Rose & Crown!

This is a great pub. We go there for lunches and the food is excellent. Its been refurbed following the smoking ban and its really nice and traditional. Recommended. *****

Very good country village pub with excellent menu (just a shade over-priced) and well-kept ales. Friendly staff and good service.

We visited on Saturday 19th July, and the food was superb! Excellent starters, my fisherman's pie was wonderful - large chunks of fish and plenty of it. The waitress service was very friendly, and the athmosphere in the restaurant, about 40 covers, very happy. Only comment was that as the waiting staff were also helping out in the bar, it wasd a while before we could get our bill.

Mum (in her 80's) was taken there for lunch last year so recommended it when we said we would take her out for lunch on her birthday. As ever I am glad I took my Mums advice. 6 of us had different dishes & all were superb and all home made. The Steak in ale suet pudding was the best I have had in the last 20 years. Three beers on (Hall & Woodhouse) in excellent condition.

A belated review of this pub. I visited it for lunch in early June with a friend from NZ. We had the best ploughmans - duck terrine highly recommended - and wonderful ham and cheese. Good service, comfortable garden and extra entertainment watching the thatchers at work.

there last weekend still as good as ever, the staff are great and you have a good time, food superb dave

Although it was after 3pm, the lovely landlady still served me. The beer was tip-top, the finest pint I've had for a while. Recommended, even if you have to travel a while to sample the delights offered here.
