Continues in the same vein - small place , front part crowded and noisy (with older folk) small back room quiet. The Taylor's Boltmaker was a nice pint on this visit.
Constant Beatles/Merseybeat music played with a clientele that were around when it first came out. Small but not quite perfectly formed - floor slopes. Brew I had was good.
Only downside is how small it is; otherwise was here when back in the Pool last weekend and stick by my 2015 review; if it's not the best pub in Liverpool Wezzielad it's certainly not far off. Rowdy older friendly clientele sums it up nicely!
This may be (still a fair few to try for me) the best pub I've been to in Liverpool. The atmosphere is good, the ale is nice (4 when I was in including Landlord and Doom Bar) and the lady behind the bar was quite friendly and even let me and my pal try a sample of the Blueberry ale from Bradfield brewery. It can get quite tight for space but it wasn't enough to put me off enjoying my time here. Not the cheapest but I wouldn't say it's over the top with their prices either. Certainly a must visit I believe.
Sill a haunt for the rowdy senior delinquent crowd, especially on a Saturday afternoon/evening when it can be quite noisy. They're still a friendly enough bunch though.
Always liked this place for the staff, clientele and quality of the beer. Perfect location as well if waiting for a train or shopping.
Friendly landlady and nice small traditional pub. Good real ales. Worth a visit when you are in town.
A small but decent traditional pub with well kept cask ales. Handy for the city centre and well worth a visit.

The Globe has had a bit of a refurb, as McRoyal states. But the old character is still there. It's the same clientele and the beer range is still not as good as many Liverpool pubs. But it's still worthy of a quick stopover if you're out shopping or have spare time before catching a train. Beers on yesterday lunchtime were Liverpool Organic William Roscoe, Robinsons DIzzy Blonde & Unicorn, Sharps Doom Bar & Black Sheep Best Bitter. Busy and lively as always.
I love it - great little pub which has just recently had a sensitive refurbishment but still has cheery staff and good beer and an ever changing clientele as well as many regulars. Right opposite Central station and near the main shopping areas. The floor still slopes; the rooms are pleasant and cosy (especially when it's busy) but service is good and the Liverpool Organic "Bier Head" was excellent as was the 1960's music on a Sunday night! Note the huge Map of the World in the back room (only spoilt by a shelf and some lights screwed to it!). Highly recommended.
We got to the Globe on a quite frosty lunchtime and got stuck into a pint of Howell's Frosty Bells and a pint of Bateman's Rosy Nosy which were both superb. We sat on the dias in the front window and had a marvelous view of the slope. I can inform you that the toilets hace been completely modernised and are now a pleasure to use. The Christmas decorations are beautiful and the clients as friendly as ever.
Decent small traditional boozer and served by a welcoming landlady. Very decent pint. Locals friendly and chatty. Well worth a call.
A group of twenty of us managed to find room in the " tiny" bar without upsetting a single soul. Luckily the landlady was busily ejecting a group of students who had overstayed their welcome when we arrived, so instead of sniffs of the barmaid's apron she was soon pulling pints of real ale. The Globe, in my opinion, is one of the top ten pubs on Merseyside and is a must if you are in the centre.
After a visit to Radio City to get a panoramic view of Liverpool perhaps it was most apt to pay a visit to The Globe just through the shopping arcade in order to sample the quintessential spirit of the Liverpool alehouse that I remember from my youth. The clientele is rather aging like myself and that is perhaps why everyone was so courteous. Though packed, it was easy to get served , and room was soon found for us to sit down. In no time we were in conversation and we passed a very pleasant hour before moving on to another watering hole.
Can't really add anything different to most of the reviews here...packed with a crowd of no-one under 50, it seemed. Good range of 5 different real ales behind the tiny bar. Sttep slope up to the tiny snug back bar, gents toilets are a little scruffy...alright, a lot scruffy, they do need tidying up. However, no detraction from an authentic city centre pub experience. Lovely frontage to the place as well.
Popped in for a pint on way to Goodison, stayed for three! Friendly locals, very efficient staff and plenty of football chat around the bar. Clearly gets very busy due to central location, but an excellent option nevertheless.
quick visit for me and the wife on 3/2/12, friendly staff and regulars great atmosphere, all the regulars singing away in the top corner ,5 real ales available,
a pleasure to visit

A good pub? Yes. The best in Liverpool? Probably not. Best avoided at busy times as it can become decidedly uncomfortable but generally speaking the other reviewers have it right. Worth a visit but for me its just that - a pub to visit as part of a crawl.
A vibrant city centre pub that was very busy on our Saturday lunchtime visit. The choice of beers was good, as was the quality.
pleasant if small interior, packed with shoppers.First pint i had was off but was changed without any problem for a Black Sheep ,which was good.

The lasttwo comments beggar belief - Blue Scrumpy is complaining that they gate-crashed a private party, got free food and then moans about the pub. If its choice of beers is not up to some peoples expectations it is due to being a Punch Taverns house, and there are few Punch pubs with a better selection. As for UKRichard, I suspect that he is confusing it with Coopers next door. Please pay more attention next time.
I can't believe this pub's ranking. Don't assume this is going to be a great pub or even a mediocre one with the most wonderful beer - it's neither. It's tiny, scruffy and not exactly full of the friendliest scousers in town. Last time I was in there mid-week, mid-evening, it was so crowded, noisy and full of the most intimidating people that a number of the group I was in either declined to go in to begin with or turned on their heels and went straight out again. I and a couple of others stayed for a hastily drunk pint and the fight that broke out between two women seemed to confirm the others in my party that went elsewhere were right. There is a wealth of decent pubs in Liverpool - experience those, not this place!

Paid my second visit here yesterday. Whilst its a fairly unspoilt city centre boozer, I don't necessarily think it warrants its current position in the top 5 pubs in the UK. As one of the few pubs open before 11am on a Saturday in Liverpool (other than in Wetherspoons), it was already busy when we walked in around 10.20 yesterday. Somebody was celebrating their 60th birthday and the main bar was packed with very little room for manoeuvre. The characterful rear room was empty though. So we retreated there. Service is very friendly and the barmaid even brought around complimantery baps with trays of sausages, bacon and black pudding to fill them with. I'm not sure if these had been made especially for the birthday celebrations. But they were a nice touch. Cains Bitter, Black Sheep Best Bitter, Jennings Cocker Hoop, Belhaven IPA & Wyre Piddle Potters Chamber of Secrets were the beers on. A good city centre pub. But there are better pubs in Liverpool.
Still a haunt for the raucous pensioner crowd. The ale selection wasn't as varied on this visit and had to settle for a pint of Doom Bar which was as reasonable a pint of it as you'll get. Still a classic little city pub and you can always nip in to the little back snug if the crowd in the main bar get too rowdy.

On a day trip from Sunderland, we couldn't have started in a better bar. Full to bursting at 3.00p.m. but served within seconds. An excellent pint of Cains & very friendly locals. Really enjoyed watching the octogenarian glass collector, who insisted on calling my 51 year old mate 'lad', at work.
Lovely pub if you can get in.If you shove , you can usually find a bit of space as the locals are very friendly and accommodating as is the bar-lady. There's always a good selection of well kept ales to try.
If you are a first time visitor to Liverpool and only have a chance to go to one pub, makse sure it is The Globe. It is handy for Lime Street stations so you have no excuse not too!
I have been going here all my drinking life and it is like the whole city condensed into one pub - friendly, lively, boisterous, occasionally rowdy and like nowhere else on earth.
A real mixed group of drinkers here from 18 to 80 but tending towards the top of that range. Great selection of half a dozen or so real ales. Friendly, brassy, typically scouse barmaids (it is always barmaids).
A highlight is a lunchtime pint in here during big rce meetings at Aintree. You will see retired/saked dockers drinking next to countrty types in tweed and brogues.
A fantastic pub.
Great pub, busy & handy for Moorfields station.
Small Victorian bar with another small room to the rear, four ales on (of which I had a good pint of Cains which is hard to find these days), clientelle all old folk and a sloping floor - another top flight alehouse.

Every time i o to liverpool for a drink i go into this pub because i love it. it is a rarity, the staff are really nice and the customers are great. In fact I am going there tomorrow (thurs 19/08/10).
What can I say that has not been said before! A real rare gem. I love this pub.
Easily Liverpool's best pub. Great beer, great staff and great atmosphere
Small friendly pub yesterday served Cains Bitter, Black Sheep Bitter, Brains Bread of Heaven and Exmoor Ale. Good crowd in there at lunchtime, group of girls on a birthday bash singing along to the music. Standing room only, worth a visit.
Anytime I go to Liverpool, this pub is on my "must visit" list. Always a friendly welcome from the staff and customers and a pleasure to visit. Another proper boozer!
This is a fine old pub in the middle of a sea of newness. A small front bar leads up a fairly steep slope, through to a smaller snug at the back which seats about 8. Theres a plaque on the wall in the snug commemorating the inaugural meeting of Merseyside CAMRA which was held here in 1974, there cant have been many of them, there isnt room. Its a proper locals pub in the city centre but all are welcome. I had a pint of OHanlons Yellowhammer which was very good, its good pub.
Tiny pub that is easily the best aong this row of 3 in a very short space. It feels a bit out of place in the shopping district as it's completely unspoilt and traditional within, in direct contrast to many of its surroundings. The big names dominate the real ale range and Cains is there of course, but generally a good pint- more than you get in its neighbours. There's very often no room to sit in the tiny bar room, but there's another equally small room at the back that's usually quieter. Some fascinating Liverpool-ana on the walls and a friendly crowd create a briliant atmosphere. Another Liverpool classic.
a small pub noted for its sloping floor and wrinklies, at least I wasn't the youngest person in the pub this visit. No surprises in the beer range available, all very very well kept but largely international or regional names. The staff may be old but by god they can move fast towards the rustle of a 10 note. They also keep the place spotless and can handle any scallys who wander in. Always an interesting pub to visit and definitely one to treasure.

Here is the thing, as a tourist i have to say: this is what i am looking for when i want a daytime pint.Even the background music was pefect-stones and pink floyd etc.
A great little pub selling a very nice pint of Cains Bitter, Cains Mild and a guest ale. Sixties music played at a level so as not to stifle conversation, very friendly staff and clientelle. My first pint in The Globe was in 1973. It was a good pub then, and it's still a good pub now. It's supposed to be an 'old man's pub', but my lad is 19 and really enjoys visiting The Globe.
A real gem - and a rarity these days - a traditional city centre boozer. Great place, friendly welcome, very efficient service and ale in tip-top condition - what more could you ask?
What an incredibly unique place! Tiny pub nestled next door to Clayton Square shopping centre & one you would almost certainly walk past without noticing. Very small with 2 rooms & a weird sloping floor it doesn't need many people to pack this venue. Very friendly staff & clients I doubt anyone could fail to have a good time. There can't be many of these types of pubs still in existence.
Small traditional pub in the heart of the City Centre situated close to the entrance to the Clayton Street shopping mall.
There is one small bar at the front which leads to a quieter room at the back.
There is much wood-pannelling and stained glass to admire. However, the main distinctive feature is the sloping floor which slopes down quite noticeably to the back of the front bar from the bar area at the front - indeed the pub advertises itself outside as " the pub with the famous sloping floor"
Note the globe high up on the facade of the building, indicating that the pub dates back to 1888.
It's badged as a Robert Cain's & Co's house, but serves guest beers also - on my recent visit, these included Deuchars IPA and Black Sheep.
Well worth seeking out, but be aware that this is one of the smaller pubs in Liverpool and that you'll probably have to stand.
Nice little basic pub usually has a few well kept real ales. Standing room near the doors, long bar on one side with seating opposite and at the far end then on further into a little room at the back. Nice enough decor with some original ceiling features and articles and pictures about old Liverpool sites and people.
One of Liverpool's little gems, this place. Beer is always well-kept. The place is very old-fashioned, in a way that seems to be just left over from the first time round, rather than re-done to look old, if you know what I mean, but I don't see that as a problem. The only problem I have with it is that it is pretty small and snug so if there are more than half a dozen of you you struggle to be able to sit or stand in a group.
Great little boozer with friendly folks and a cracking pint.
I visited this pub last tuesday evening and what a real pub it is. I had a pint of Black sheep bitter and something else, very well kept and a good price at 2 pound. If your looking for characters and good beer this is the place to be. The locals are freindly and they might but you a pint if your out of town. The only problem is the sloping floor. Liverpool is a friendlier city than Birmingham. Birmingham pubs can be paranoid man
Not to be missed. Unbuggered-about with.
This is a fantastic little pub, tho' the slope does throw you when you have had a few. Great choice of guests, and the country and western music is fine too.
Brilliant pub! Best barmaid in Liverpool. Hubby and I call in on Sundays when we go for lunch and the barmaid always remembers what we drink even if we havent been in for a few weeks. By the way we call it the "deep end" cos the bar reches your chest as you walk in but towards the back of the bar it reaches your waist, bit like walking in a swimming pool! Beers good too
This is a very good little pub indeed. It seems to get very busy, but staff always cope. Well kept beer. And yes, the floor does slope!
Its a classic Liverpool pub, small, traditional and welcoming to both locals and visitors. Good range of real ales ( including Cains ) Beware the sloping floor, which can lead you to think you're much the worse for wear than is actually the case !
