Apart from its name/ownership, I can't see what this has got in common with Waxy's proper. Crowded and expensive
why has it got so expensive?
A large Smirnoff and a dash of coke here is £8.85! 50 ml of vodka, in total. More expensive than the Hilton, Park Lane. Glad I asked for a quote before I walked out.
"onthebrew" - I was more than suited to Waxys and spent an awful lot of my money in there over the years. Unfortunately though the staff, in particular the door staff have ruined the reputation of the place and the silly prices they now charge in the West End means i will quite happily find some other proper London Pub to spend my wages in :)
awesome even, just a typo!
AWESOME, two "e"s please!
There is nothing awasome about a handlift !
Good for a chilled out guinness or 2. The handlift is awasome too :)
Think below comments are made by people not suited to waxys ! Lovely bar wth friendly staff and no nonsense bouncers. Great selection of drinks and good craic ! Proper Irish bar , well worth a visit!
When I first started going out in London a good few years ago I really like this place. Now if you plan to go here and you're not with a member of the opposite sex then dont even try and bother after 6pm. It's doors are staffed by rude, aggresive bouncers who take great delight in ruining your evening and trying to make you look stupid. Personally I think there are far more pubs in the area with a better reputation than this, I personally would avoidl
Dropped by for a drink after leaving waxy's across the road and wasn't dissapointed. Found a comfy couch upstairs with the girlfriend and chilled out for the rest of the evening. Bar was busy and the one bar tender was coping well and even managed to wheel our order up in the small lift they have, not sure what its called, a dumb waiter??? or something like that. Anyways we loved it and will be back. Great pint of Guinness as well
Stopped in here with the girlfriend on Friday night. This is the kind of establishment that reminds me why I always bolt for the Harp or Dog And Duck when I'm in the area. As mentioned below, downright aggressive bouncers, plus bar staff who clearly don't want to be there. Miserable. Avoid.

Well - bad reviews here - but Im a regular of the main Waxys across the street - tried this place once and it was ok but certainly nothing special - barman was alright but yeah - very little atmosphere - in no rush to go back!
I really like this little pub - I usually favour it on a sunday night. Decent, attentive staff and a good range of beers. Great place to meet your mates before a trek around soho and the west end.
This is one of the worst pubs I've ever been in. If you're ever in the West End/Chinatown/Leicester Square area and fancy a good drink in a nice pub, then this is definately NOT the place for you. Avoid this pub like the plague and visit the Tom Cribb instead.
However, if you like overpriced shit beer served to you in dirty glasses by arrogant and offensive bar staff then you'll be happy here.
I always meet up with friends and family here as it's a lovely little pub. Never had a problem with the service and drinks always been served well. You can't go wrong with this place.
Oh dear...
A nice space in a great location should make for a cracking west end boozer.
However, visits here on the weekend reveal the pub to be deserted thanks to the heavy handed and overly physical and abusive nature of the door staff.
One to avoid until something changes its distinctly unpleasant atmosphere.
This is one of my locals when I'm in the city and must say it's a cracking little boozer. Good beer at a reasonable price for central London, clean bar front and back and friendly staff. Stools perched by the huge windows good for people watching. Good music selection too. Pity it closes at 11pm during the week, but it's ideal for a few pints before dinner or going out on the tiles properly.
One would assume that this place is spot on , The manager has only been here 2-3 months so should be getting stuck in and making sure that all is top notch. unfortunatly this is not the case. A right slop hole and very sour staff ( unless they fancy you, it would seem). not the best pint of guinness ive ever had and service was very slow. This company needs to look at its staff hiring process before they ruin a once ok pub..
This is without doubt the worst 'pub' I have been in for many a year. That rates it pretty low. Expensive ,dirty , uncleared glasses lying about. Bar itself has the look and feel of something slung up on a buidling site to serve thirsty workers with cups of tea. I feel sorry for those who have to work there but not for those who choose to go there. Can't comment on the ale since it did not seem to serve any.
Went in here Saturday afternoon about 12:30. Cocky c**t of a paddy barman told me to take my hat off before he'd serve me. "Wot for?" says I. "Security purposes" says he. "Stick yer pint" says I, and walked out. I'm more Arfur Mullard than Bin Laden. And they don't sell proper beer in here anymore, not like when it was a proper pub, only Guinness and lager. Dump.
Liked this one. Comfi seats upstairs, music is doable, nice bar staff, beer is fine.. 7/10.
This used to be the Falcon and was a fine pub for a late night snifter after dinner, the movies or a show.
Like the whole Leicester Square area it has gone distinctly down market - one for 19 yr old chavs from Kent
Mediocre. Walk across the road and spend your time and money at Waxy O'Connors, she's a beaut. This little trollop isn't really worth the while, she is fairly easy - but no class. 5/10.
Thought this place was ok. Staff friendly, nice indoors, didn't know there was an upstairs bit!
"as someone who earns many muliples of the average industrial wage", i dont particularly like this place - flat Fosters. Not so much "little sister" more "embarrassing uncle"
i like this one - upstairs is great; not often do you get drinks winched up to you. great views.
yep, it's got a lift for the drinks. not a bad gimmick, though not as good as the bogs at the london stone on cannon street. named after a terence trent d'arby tune.
yet another awful plastic paddy pub
If James Bond was real - he'd drink here. Although, I don't know what their Martini's are like, the rest of their drinks range is outstanding.
Superb for spying on the world below!
On a cold, wet afternoon in winter there's nothing better than sitting upstairs in Waxy's Little Sister for a few pints (especially if you get drinks sent up on the dumb waiter).
Unfortunately a couple of weeks ago I had one of the worst pints of Guinness I've ever had - what made it worse was the barman was a cocky little Irish fella who had the nerve to try and get away with calling it a pint.
I'll poke my nose in there again sometime but it won't be any time soon.
The upstairs is really nice with the sofas and the fireplace.
Nice intimate little pub that's a great spot for people watching.
not as good as the older brother across the road
The Falcon was a great pub. This isn't. Begorrah.
Eric B and Rakim have it, this place hasn't. Bland
Quirky little pub with a good selection of whiskeys. The bar staff were a good laugh and it has the intimacy and non-boorishness that you don't get in Waxy's proper.
Rubbish. terrible pint. Waste of space.
What a relief to find an Irish pub with Irish staff! Unlike the O'Neills across the road which was staffed by foreigners (Polish).
Couldn't get in [the staircase entrance] last night, hence 0 score.
4 fellas, 1 with tracky trousers on. He is not allowed in. We then go to another pub and then tracksuit man goes home. We go back to Waxys to try our luck. Only for the bouncer this time to say 'unless one of you is a lady, you cant come in'.
Well, changing trousers is one thing but i think undergoing a sex change is a bit extreme, just for a pint.
Have enjoyed it a lot - until last time, when they wouldn't let my wife and me in, cos of track pants!!! Hopeless.

Quite quirky, what with the dumb waiter taking drinks upstairs.
In practice a nightmare, as you finish up inadvertantly nicking someones drinks and vice versa

the mark of a fine pub is friendly staff and good beer or lager on tap.Unfortunatly this pub provides the thirsty punter with none of this.Looks good from the outside though, never mind.

not a patch on the real waxy's across the road but still a nice establisment

Used to be The Falcon. Great pub and smashing upstairs bar. Now another tired Irish theme bar.
Eeek..waay too busy and crowded to be enjoyable..sorry.

Love it, love it, love it. A gem of a pub in an area dominated by crap theme bars. Everything a pub should be.

really good little pub. upstairs is great. barmaids come round to get you drinks and are very friendly. worth it if you are out with a few mates.

Waxy's little sister is located just behind the swiss centre off LEICESTER SQUARE! and is at least a good five minutes walk from piccadilly. This place is quite superb, you wan watch the world go by, have a decent drink, with quite decent company too-well worth going to.
belgrave square boy - 9 Jul 2003 16:43 |
chilled version of Waxy O'connors over the road, lovely barmaid possibly called karina!
zimbo theflyingman - 13 May 2003 12:50 |
Nice and relaxed - Upstairs is good for people watching...Dumb waiter is good for the lazy people amongst us!
Stuart - 6 Dec 2002 10:19 |
Good if small pub. I like the way they send orders up to the top floor using a dumb waiter.
