Fairly typical Wetherspoons though Bicester is bereft of reasonable drinking houses. The Acorn Barnsley Bitter was just about drinkable. Seems to be a high proportion of the clientelle on DLA judging by the number of sticks and scooters about the place.

Decent enough Wetherspoon's, I indulged in pints of Copper Coast, The Good Game & Glory, all 3 ales were in good condition. Smoking area at rear, food not bad and toilets on ground floor.

Has somehow made it on to Beer in the Evening twice which is twice too many. Like all Wetherspoons, it's cheap but that's where the advantages end because again, like all Wetherspoons, it's an aircraft hangar of a place, full of geezers (young and old), full of day-glo adverts for its wares, owned by a UKIP sympathiser and joint responsible with Costa Coffee and others for the uniformity of Britain's high streets. All wrong then and even the beer selection and taste on this visit was rubbish.

this message is to GRMull, if you think the beer is almost out of date you obviously havent a clue what your on about, the reason the beer is so cheap is because they are part of a chain of over 800 pubs and the bulk buying power they have is that high that they get the beer in that much cheaper!!! Doesnt take a genius to figure out mate!!

As to the comment above....the kids area is at the rear of the pub (half the pub) it is near the garden yes but it is not a small area at all. Also kids are welcome in the family area if they are eating.

Still pretty lousy unless you like the company of the winoes who queue up outside to get their fix from 9AM. Not the cleanest of places either and my last visit was fleeting as a result of both these factors.
Cheap beer (almost by sell by date of course) but for this reason alone 2/10 (just!)

The staff seem more friendly this year, the food is o.k and the beer still cheaper than competition. I have had one duff pint but changed with no problem. It is a typical Weatherspoons with a very mixed cliental, busy at all times of day. You have to accept the brand works.

I've had totally different experiences at this place
Twice had them forget our food order, and spent ages waiting to get served.
On other times staff have actually been friendly at the bar, so it seems it depends on your luck with this place. We've found the management to be rude as well.

Most Wetherspoons are of a standard. One accepts that, possibly it is part of their 'charm'. We ate here last week and the steaks were more than adequate and the young waiter enthusiastic. It is a pity that his desire to please had not rubbed off on the bar staff or management, who were rude, surly and incompetent. A pint means a pint not one and a quarter of inches of froth. I for one do not expect rude back chat from the 'supervisor' when pointing this out and their obligations under the law. A VISIT FROM TRADING STANDARDS, PLEASE- SOON!! Other than that it is grubby, and the Police were watchfully waiting outside. What is wrong with Wetherspoons these days ?

The beers are good, and the prices are too. Can get very crowded and noisy. Could maybe do with a makeover, seems a bit drab at times.

Good beer, good prices, average food although the special nights (curry, steak etc) are usually packed and good. Too many screaming kids with disinterested parents during the day.

With some Wetherspoon pubs it feels a little artificial and full of kids drinking alcopops for a pound...with the Penny Black this is no exception, however as mentioned find a Sunday to Wednesday you can actualy enjoy yoursef in there.

Boring, no music, no atmosphere, however people like it because of the cheap drinks. Personally if cheap drinks was my only criteria I would rather buy them from Tesco's than drink in this boring hell hole. Do yourself a favour and go up to the Hobgoblin instead.
I can however recommend one plus point - the gents toilets are ideally situated just inside the front door in case you get taken short whilst out shopping, and as pub bogs go they are pretty decent.

Great Weatherspoon pub, going for the no smoking thing in a big way and I like that!
Food can be a bit variable, depends on whether or not its the 'chick' in the kitchen and I'll leave you to decide for yourself. That said, I've eaten some really nice meals in here. I they screw up, which they occasionally do they are more than happy to fix it.
Beer.. what can I say. If you love real ale like I do then the range is excellent, especially when a beer fest is on.
Gets a bit roudy on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights in here with all the 'youngsters' and chavs that Bicester has in great numbers these days. They all disappear off to the Litter Tray (Litten Tree), the local meat market at around 10.30 though and leave you in peace with your beer. Pick a nice quiet night such as Monday or Wednesday to enjoy this pub. Better still, pop in there on a Saturday afternoon and sit out in the beer garden in the summer.
