I try to be upbeat but I'm afraid that this JDW outlet has to be the worst one I have been in. Rarely do they have more than 4 beers on bar. The other week they ran out of Guinness! Needs a change of management, I feel and feedback from JDW HQ is that they are watching this place now.

Things seem to have deteriorated here quite dramatically. Saturday nights sees only 3 or 4 of the pumps 'live'. Last week it was GK IPA, Abbot or Ruddles. No guests. Tables not cleared and one person serving at the bar. Are they cost cutting at the expense of the punter? When it opened this place was a godsend as the local brewers had skyhigh prices and indifferent ale. Now everyone else in the town seems to have stepped up to the mark but Wetherspoons is now a grotty place where you go as a last resort...

A large Wetherspoons in centre of town. Now has residential section. Nicely refurbished. Only 6 handpumps so they struggle when the beer festivals come around. Staff are friendly.
|
Busy pub under the town clock. Had been a bit variable in the past but much better now. Interesting beers on handpump and a 'coming soon' board added recently. Prices are very keen in this little Dorset town dominated by Palmers and their extortionate prices for a pint - sometimes undercutting them by £1.50 a pint.

Our first Wetherspoons, it was divided into separate largish rooms and was soon full at lunchtime. My Abbot ale was excellent, food was good and table service polite and cheerful. Prices were low, you can see why Wetherspoons are popular!

Good pub with 5 star food hygiene rating. It had lots of nautical pictures due to connection with Admiral Thomas Hardy. I was in a coach party of thirty people and they reserved a room for us with only thirteen places. They suppied an urn with lukewarm water for the tea and coffee but the biscuits were good.
I would like to come back again and try their food and beer.

We had breakfast here, and it was fine. I think breakfast and cheap, good beer is what Wetherspoons do best (I'm not very impressed by their other food). The service was good. The only thing I could fault was that empty tables weren't cleared quickly enough.

This is the worst pub i have ever been too. A terrible layout inside understaffed rubbish food. The spag bol meal we ordered was a joke, cold and such a small portion it would have been a insult for a starter. Went back in a few months later and the place was chaotic and just could'nt get served so just walked out and went to the george opposite and was esstatic to pay 3.30 for a pint of ale my rating -10/10

This pub has been very sub standard for many years ...but no longer ! The staff were friendly and did not get stressed when they were busy, I changed my food order and they smiled.I had a Jimmy Riddle an ale from Piddle Brewery which was in good condition so was the Deuce from Hunters Brewery Ipplepen,Devon. So my rating goes to eight from a previously well earned zero.

ok for what it is. If you want a cheap meal and arn't too fussed then this is the place. We have a holiday home in Charmouth and often come here..
|
Some interesting ales on the bar. Well kept. Only nag is the lack of bar staff at busy times. Can wait up to 10mins to get served.

Bridport's Wetherspoon pub serving 4 ales from their national beerfest menu. 4 beers do not a beer festival make. Hardly expected anything too adventurous from this pathetic pub/beer shop.
|
Called in on Friday last. Two Cottage beers on bar - how surprising. One was SOMERSET & DORSET, the other was called SOUTHERN or something. Both beers coming out of same barrel bloke on bar informed me - taste identical so I believe him.

McDonalds for adults

Beer festival an absolute joke. Three ales on the six pump bank at the bar - three without clips. Five on stillage in beer garden. Come 10 o'clock they took stillage down. Beer festival featuring 3 ales! Haydn - you have the imagination of a baked potato.. At least the Dorchester outlet usually have about 12 on... Pub is dirty, full of drunks who still get served (illegal surely) and the last resort when I'm out. With so many other pubs in town pulling themselves up a bit this place needs new ideas.

Had lunch here yesterday. Not a huge selection of ale.
I tried the Exmoor stag(?) it was O.K. Shandychica had John Smith's extra cold in her shandy. The bar man took off the sprinkler when asked, but she thought it was too sweet. Maybe the lemonade. The food was nice. I had the Shank of Lamb and the Mrs had a pasta thing, which she said was tasty. Quite busy, but the staff seemed to be able to cope.
Does need a good clean tho. The interior is quite gloomy and felt grubby. The menus and table adverts were stained and torn, giving a poor impression as I guess most people come here to eat.
Could do a lot better.

Why do people have such high expectations of a Wetherspoons? They are a cheap, bland chain with micro-wave based cooking and poorly paid staff. The only possible reason for going in one is the cheapness of the beer (don't expect the bar person to have a clue what they are serving!)
|
i had a couple of decent breakfasts in here last week, it was quite busy on both occaisions, and the service was prompt, can't comment on the beer quality as tempting though it was to have a pint with my breakfast, being on holiday an all, but I stuck to coffee,

We came here a couple of days after visiting the Royal Oak in Dorchester, and had reasonably high hopes. Codrington Royal on the pumps. I told the barman that I had never tried this before. A sample was poured immediately, without my asking. Very impressed. The beer was extremely good too. Very well served and kept. Well deserved of the Cask Marque. The general ambiance was good. The tables were not sticky either. In fact all was going very well - Then the food arrived. To say the mixed grill was overdone is about as kind as I can be. I had to keep checking the menu to see which meat I was eating as it all looked the same and tasted like charcoal. Shame the restaurant staff had vanished. The cook (?) here could learn a lot from the Chef at the Royal Oak. Would we go back? For a drink, yes. For food, forget it.

What are Wetherspoons doing? Last Friday only one beer namely Ruddles best was available. The service is dire , the food inedible. Someone needs to get a grip on this place. 0/10
|
This is a 'spoons house, i've been in quite a few ( a shame faced addmission ) . This is easily the worst ever, the service is delibrately slow the staff are the most demotivated i've ever seen. They actually take pride when a customer gives up and leaves . I have waited ages upon ages to get served just so the staff have to serve me. My son insisted on eating in here a little while ago and boy did he learn a lesson ! The food was cold , the portions miniscule.0/10

Average JDW. No IPA. No Courage Best. But Pedigree at 99p cannot be bad. Busy Saturday lunchtime. Quick service at bar and food.
|
Well, I have been impressed by most JDW pubs, with the exception of the Lantokay in Street, which, until now, was the worst in this chain. That changed today, as the Greyhound has reached depths from which most pubs would never recover. Quite a few handpumps on the bar, but only Courage best available. (We're short-staffed, and haven't had a chance to put the others on") Yeah, right! Ladies toilets were clean, but no paper, soap dospensers broken, empty or absent. Very disappointing.
|
Real ale has improved - now served at correct temp. Adding candles to tables does not a good pub make! Far too few on bar duty, dirty, food OK I suppose. Beer range needs changing - this is just a S&N tied house. Courage (2), Greene King (2) and 1 guest is not imaginative! Look at Dorchester's JDW for ideas on what the pub should be like!

I am sorry to say that this pub has gone down even further in my estimation, they have got rid of one of there best barmen,(Alex). On a Sunday lunch it is quite common to have just one member of staff on the bar, the rest are to busy with the food.
|
Grubby and ill maintained pub. Beer ok. Layout is a bit odd too.
|
whent there at easter the food and drink was tip-top and the service was much bettet than you find in most wetherspoon pub's.
|
Recently refurbished bar. Now only 4 handpumps so I guess the real ale commitment has gone. Dreary beer choice. Need to look at other free houses in town and surrounding area to see how to do it.

I never expect much from a wetherspoon's outlet, chilled real ale and poor service are the norm, but this pub is in aleague of it's own the worst service ever! Allied with vinegar replacing beer. DO NOT Go THERE! I've given this pub nought i must be in a good mood!
|
First impressions of this pub were good, lasting impressions certainly weren't!! Went there for 'Curry Club' after waiting 1 hour for food was told our meal had been given to the wrong table by mistake and they were then sold out!! Very slapdash. Went for a Chinese.

One of the worst Wetherspoon's I have been to for ages. A very poor ale selection (all Greene King and Marstons), and a rather grubby feel to the pub.
|
Goes from bad to worse. Under staffed bar at weekends; beer usually limited to four real ales. A shame as it was better when it opened.

We ended up in the Greyhound after a fruitless search for a restaurant in Bridport outside of the holiday season - grill night was great value and obviously popular, food was spot on.Usual large range of the JDW ales and ciders. Place is a bit souless, lots of small seating areas including an almost separate room, but no complaints.
|
What has happened to the Greyhound? It was never that great but lately its getting worse. The draw of cheap beer is one thing but I prefer a decent crowd and not to hang around to get served.

When Wetherspoons arrived in Bridport we all welcomed it. At last a pint at a fair price. Since the landlord has gone the pub is now filthy, understaffed on busy nights and the guest ales are unimaginative. Look to the Dorchester 'spoons for 'how to do it'. Bar staff surly too.
