Pre-new owners I always stayed away from this place. The Sky Sports and lager drinking really didn't fit in with my taste.
Last Friday I popped in with a mate to give it a go. What a revelation! The food was magnificent - we both had Aberdeen Angus burgers and washed them down with a variety of Badger ales. We even got table service a couple of times too.
Heartily recommend this place and its a welcome contrast to the more up market Inn @ West End round the corner (which is where I usually go).

This pub has recently (April 2011) had a face lift and has a new land lord - so ignore all the negative comments that were written before.
It's now light and airy - they do really great pub food - and even breaksfast - starting at 8.00 a.m
You're get a warm welcome local or not. If you're after a good honest pub - this is it.

I Have a friend who lives close to this pub and have been there more than 5 times now, it has a good atmosphere for drinking, but i wouldn't spend a weekend evening here as the pub can empty very quickly and be dead by 9PM. It is very much a locals pub with same the faces around all the time, which is great if you like them, it has poor selection of lagers but a good selection of Ales it is very pricey but the bar staff are friendly, more so than the landlord. all in all a good local but nothing more.

Had a brief visit here one afternoon. Staff quite friendly and a reasonably nice interior. Had a pint of Sussex Brewery at 3.05. Also had a couple of other Badger ales on tap. They have a large screen TV for Sky Sports etc but also agree with other comments that I too got the impression that this is a locals pub.
This isn't a bad boozer by any means and OK for a swift pint if you're passing by but that's about it.
7/10.

Dont bother. Useless place. Food ? cant even be bothered half the time. Landlord/lady most defenitly on the wrong side of the bar most of the time

Mixed views about this one. It really is a REGULARS pub. The landlord will always serve regulars first and once you do get some service it's usually with a scowl as opposed to a smile. Shame really becaue the other staff seem quite nice and friendly towards everyone and there are a number of decent ales available on a regular basis. Funny sort of place, worth a look just to experience the landlords own special "service". Dogs are welcome but i wouldn't take any kids there as the play area (apart from being covered in dog foul) isn't exactly top notch...see for yourself! One other thing the colourful gang of regualrs, whilst an unusual bunch are quite friendly and can be interesting company. In summary a funny old place but worth a look if even for a sociological experiment.

This used to be a great pub but since the refurb some years ago, the pub has gone down hill...
problems with the pub...
The beer would be ok if the pipes were cleaned properly and often enough. Toilets are quite simply awfull! Stinky and dirty landlord is uninterested in interacting with customers, and seems to be on the wrong side of the bar most of the time. No decent food and only on offer if the landlord can be bothered. carpets covered in dog hair
Good points Sky tv - showing most main Sports events.
Recomendation go somewhere else if your looking for a good atmosphere, good beer and good food.

Good pint of Badger Beer in here although at 3.00 a pint there are cheaper places for a pint of good beer. None-the-less seems a good local boozer with plenty of different real ales available; sure I'll be back there at some point.

Yes Tee Jay, it's origins lie in 1WW military history (pack-horse regiments) and relate to local social history as well. They were also cared for in that area after service. When I lived in Frimley I was told the full story by a fine old gent but unfortunately can't recall it accurately now. My apologies to other contributors for going off topic. I do however remember this pub as being a good solid locals boozer that served fantastic bacon and egg rolls at lunchtime.......ahh....ahh memories ! No rating left, too long since my last visit.

Is there really a place called 'Donkey Town'...!!! ?

The pub has a friendly atmosphere and in recent years regained it's 'local' feel with Basil the landlord building up a regular clientel base-.
Parking can be a bit hit and miss as its a bit limited, but roadside parking is a viable alternative if your considerate.
The pub is opposite one of the routes into Brentmoor Heath - a large area of common land with fine walks at any time of the year - so it makes a good starting/finishing point if your into walking/biking.
