Catford Ram, Catfordback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Haven't been for several years but I’ve always liked the Ram.
Yes it's a bit dingy and the glasses always needed a proper clean but it was an honest pub with honest people drinking in there.
My rating is based on my last experience

Dingy Youngs establishment in an old shopping precinct. As the previous reviewer states, there is one window only. This makes the large interior pretty dark. There are TV screens around. Only one other customer was present on our bank holiday morning visit. Youngs Ordinary & Special were the 2 ales on offer. Pretty poor.

I'd say this is the best pub in Catford. No trouble and drink is decent. No windows though....

A welcoming pub most times. Beer prices probably about average. Sometimes has some great live music. Hopefully their tragically out of date website will show some future events instead of events 6 months ago !

I have visited this pub a couple of times lately, May 2011, I have found it to be run by an excellent manager, with friendly, polite and knowledgable staff.
The Youngs beer was as good as I have tasted and I used to keep Youngs myself in my pub days, so I know what I'm talking about.
I haven't tried the food yet, but hear the kitchen's being re-fitted and the new menu comes into action next week.. I expect it will be good, the manager seems very keen on high standards.
It's been a pleasure to visit, with everything clean and tidy. There are some negative comments here from past incarnations, but this is now an excellent pub.
I also heard other exciting rumours.. but am sworn to secrecy...

Iv been having Christmas diner. Nice food and nice bar staff. Tasty starters and mains, but mains bit too late, but they were busy I think. Still love this pub, because of nice FOH staff and great food.

Not a bad pub in the shopping centre, I often drink here with the wife as its clean, large, and trouble free, Friendly manager, good food, and great service, its good see someone take pride in there job, I would reccommend this pub to anybody shopping in the area,.
As for the food, the Sunday Roasts are the best, as the menu says, traditionaly home cooked food, and yes they are.
be carful of the blond barmaid during the day, she is'nt very polite, otherwise nice pub

One of the better pubs in the area, have been drinking in this pub for many years, and has just come under new management, good manager, good beer, and great staff, as for the food, (Fantastic), just what this pub needs, sombody who knows what they are doing, and well fairly cheap, I like the idea of the manager charging 3 per drink through-out any football on sky, Good atmosphere, clean, and wonderful staff, lets hope it stays that way

Purpose built ( 1974 ) Youngs pub in the shopping precinct close to Catford Broadway and Lewisham Town Hall.
It's comfortably furnished in a traditional style with carpets throughout and old pictures of the area on the walls.
The low ceilings and absence of any windows ( apart from at the entrance ) help with a cosy and welcoming ambience, albeit with a rather cavernous feel due to its size.
Reflecting the area, both the beer and food are relatively cheap, Youngs Ordinary being 2.45p and foodwise, sausage, mash, peas, onions and gravy being 2.95p.
The pub is in the 2009 Good Beer Guide and the Youngs Ordinary was basically as good as it gets on my recent Saturday lunchtime visit.
I must confess to not knowing the pubs of this area very well at all, but I would be surprised if this was not one of the better ones.

I always like a pint in The Ram when I come down to London. It's the best pub in Catford, even if it does limit me to Youngs bitter, which I am not a great fan of. Food is tasty and reasonable price and tables and bar are clean. Staff very friendly and seem please to see you, which is probably the case as not so many get in there since the smoking ban. Beer prices on the high side. A pint of Youngs ordinary was under 3. I cant afford too many pints so end up in The London and Rye (Spoons) after one or two.

CRAP PUB ,CRAP PEOPLE ,CRAP BEER, MIND YOU ITS NEAR THE BOOKIES, ALL IS NOT LOST, ERNEST PROWLER

Trinker's review is fairly spot on. Plus, one of the main advantages the Ram has is that there is little within easy walking difference from the centre of Catford to challenge it. Catford really needs a pub which you can stop in on the way home from the station for a couple, and spend a nice Friday or Saturday evening in without fear of the usual hassle - I'd even welcome a Youngs in the more modern style and be happy to pay for it.
Until then it's the Ram - pleasant bar star, eclectic mix of punters.

Not sure about the previous "dim and grim" comment - on both counts. Its lighting is adequate and it certainly is not grim, the decor and furnishings are clean and in good condition, albeit perhaps in neither a contemporary or classic style. The place is just itself. It is pretty large inside and has the feel that it should be a football pub. The beers are good! And no, its not JDW prices.

Very Dim and Grim, paid a visit yesterday on a bar crawl very dissapointed. Expensive too
|
Great bar staff - average prices for the area - can be a little dark on a summers day.
|
Went passed it a few weeks ago and it was all boarded up. It was an alright pub when it was open, but there are many better Youngs pubs in SE London.

2.75 for a pint of fosters. Daylight robbery if you ask me.
|
Good choice for a pub lunch. Excellent traditional British food, plus a good selection of well-kept traditional ales.
|
Nice people, family business.
Young's beer and credible food.
|
Excellent lunchtime food. Serves draft Waggledance - a young's honeybeer. Screen is not obtrusive and Ram is a good place to meet and chaat.
