Could find fault.
And then their faultfinding could be faulty. I think.

People, myself included, would love to love this lovely inn but sadly they can't seem to maintain a consistent standard. Myself and my wife have, for many years, regularly stopped for a break in Hindon which is a lovely village. The high point over the last year was one of the best rump steaks I have eaten. Plus another time an excellent sunday lunch where they found us a great table at short notice. We no longer stop at The Lamb for coffee now whereas once, it was served in a cafetiere with a chocolate mint and a smile, now it's slapped down in a cup, tastes like below average instant and we were made to feel we had inconvenienced the girl. I get the impression that a bunch of kids are running an inn as a school project - it all depends how enthusiastic they feel that day. It could be so good - we want to be regulars!

Nothing to write home about here. Butcombe bitter was well kept, the food was not outstanding. Went there for a family pre-Christmas gathering so not many drinks consumed. Being Christmas had the reindeer (venison) steak. Not as tender as it could be and the roast vegetables were a little on the cool side. Hand made chips looked very similar to a bag of McCoys, I'm glad I didn't order these as a side dish. Cheese and biscuits (cheddar, red leicester, Brie and stilton) were a bit on the steep at £8.50. Generally a pleasant meal but not worth the 180 mile round trip.

I love this pub for its oldie-worldly ambience, interesting clientel and friendly staff. Can really relax with a drink here.
But the food - oh dear! I have had to send back my last three meals. One haggis contained sharp bits of bone that broke my tooth; one goose dish turned out to be a scrawny neck of a goose in one long piece - so tough I could not cut it. My wife's stuffed pepper was swimming in so much balsamic vinegar that she nearly choked. Last week four of us ate; the pork dish was mashed pork and stuffing (looked to me like Sunday lunch leftovers) with plain mashed potato. It was so dry that, although my companion managed to struggle through it, I could not. The ladies had the chicken dish which turned out to be a piece of roast chicken on plain mashed potatoes - no discernable sauce and no vegetables. Average price of these very basic dishes about 12!
To add insult to injury they charged a compulsory 10% service.
Advice: go for the lovely old pub and good beers: ignore the menu and order a bag of crisps followed by something from the excellent pudding menu.

Been a few times. Food is always very good. Good beer (Tribute, Bombardier and a couple of Young's) although have had better Tribute. However today had first bad experience there, waited about an hour and a half for our main courses which was totally unaccpetable. We were offered a free round of drinks to make up for this. The waiter appeared spaced out and totally off the ball most of the time which was also poor. The food was great when it turned up, Lamb Shank was very good in particular but the wait was ridiculous and we refused to pay the 10% surcharge.

As the last reviewer mentioned this is a great half-way stop on a drive between London and Devon. I've been here a few times now and always found it to be good. The food is tasty, the ales are fine and there's a great wine list and selection of whiskeys. The service can be a little slow when it's busy but I've always found the staff friendly and helpful. Lovely atmosphere and the open fires in winter are a real treat. I would definitely recommend it if you are in the area.

I visited here as it was midway between London and Devon in order to meet my sister for Sunday lunch. It was her choice and after seeing previous comments I was slightly worried. However on arrival the staff were very friendly and this remained the case throughout the visit. They were polite, helpful and the service was excellent. The food was served quickly and was very tasty, between the table we had soup, both cuts of beef and pork. The Yorkshires certainly looked homemade. The bill was 25 ahead, for 2 courses and wine. We will certainly be using this pub again as our midway point and can only assume perhaps it has changed hands or they took notice of peoples comments.

A pub trying to be all things to all men and therefore not doing any of them particularly well. I was delighted to see Youngs Winter Warmer, but disappointed that it was well past its best. The food was overpriced, made worse by a "compulsory" 10% service charge. I had roast beef which was inedible, while the puds bore a remarkable resemblance to M&S's. Service was slow and impersonal. Next time I'll eat in The Angel.

Called in here on drive down to West Country last week. Lovely interior, but barmaid seemed rather clueless - took ages to get served and order food, although was fairly speedy in delivery.

Hindon is spoilt for choice with both this pub and The Angel opposite. I have always enjoyed visiting the Boisdale in London which now owns the Lamb. I have to say that although the food is always good we waited over 3/4 hour for our main courses to come and then when we mentioned it to waiting staff were told it was our fault! Shame because previously had a high opinion of this place, my last experience was most off-putting.

Lovely country Pub. Did you know its been taken over by the Boisedale? Food is good but at restaurant prices and there is a mighty fine selection of malt whiskey's. Beware of the the Belgian Beer it'll hit further for a six than Pieterson.

Rather more restaurant/hotel than pub/inn. Had a very nice meal there and the beer was pretty good too. I only wish I had spotted the five shelves of single malts before I started on the brandy. Damn!!!
