The cleveland bay could become my local, but it never will because as a customer i'm just not appreciated. This month they advertised roast sunday dinners for 5 we arrived at 1.30 ordered drinks then our meals at 1.40 we wanted roast beef but was told there was no roast beef left, bearing in mind meals are served 12pm - 6pm we were told all we could have was roast pork at this point we asked if we could have a yorkshire pudding with this and were told point blank NO. The waitress informed us that all roast dinners usually run out by 2.30 at the latest. It is clear to me that the cleveland bay advertised that they are selling roast dinners to the public for 5 knowing that they will run out by around 2.30, people that come after that time have to buy food from the normal menu at a much more exoensive price thats what the cleveland bay want. (MONEY) The drinks are way over priced the cheapest bottle of wine is 14.50 any of the other pubs in the area are half this price. The landlord will not even come and speak to you when you have a complaint his comment is always the same phone my wife tomorrow. This is just the latest in bad service, I could go on and list all the other times we have had bad service. The ONLY reason we continue to use this pub is its the only pub in walking distance

Just had a great time at The Cleveland Bay, looking at the other comments on here I have to say that our experience was fine, food was good value and tasty (and no complaints from the kids, which is the reason for me leaving this post) and the staff were friendly, good for families.

Most of the below reviews are from quite a while ago and pretty dated. I reckon the pub has new management since the old reviews were written.
Personally I think it's a lovely pub, spacious, good outdoor area which includes a play area for kids...great in the summer! The menu has healthy choices which I loved and kids can have half portions of the food on the menu too. They had a good selection of hot drinks too, so really nice for the day time or for drivers.
Good food and good atmosphere, one for families I think. Ignore the old reviews!!

I had a beer here last week and met a really nice girls. She was nice and gave me her number

The Cleveland Bay is distinctly average lacking any character, a bit rough around the edges and in real need of a full refit. However, the pub is situated in fairly affluent area and could be successful.

While it is true the CB is now not as good as it was 10 years ago, it is still a good place for a lunchtime meal, or to sit outside in the summer.
The clientele leans more towards hooray henry types than larger louts most of the time, so overheard conversations are often smirked at (my BMW has a bigger engine than your BMW type of stuff)
Overall the atmosphere is a bit 'pub by numbers' but it is trying to be all things to all men(and women/children and dogs) so it cant excel any one thing!

This pub is in the middle of an estate. The estate has two large primary schools, one of which is next to the pub! The landlord recently advertised the pub as having a 'family room' and that as they have children of their own they welcome families with childen. This is utter rubbish! As you enter the pub, the hge sign 'children MUST be off the premesis by 9pm' is a clue to the attitude of the landlord towards children. The 'family' room ALWAYS displays football on the big screen if it's on, regardless of who is in the room. The room is open plan and has no door, so young children can easily escape to the main pub area, where they and their parents are repremanded! making it a stressfull time if dining in this area - with no family facilities. There are no nappy changing facilities either. The pub garden leads directly onto the car park, this could be rectified with a simple fence to keep little ones safer. There are so many families in this area who would be more than happy to while away a sunday afternoon or friday evening for a few hours, eating and having a few drnks before walking home, but are made to feel so unwelcome by the landlord and a select few hardcore drinkers that they don't bother.

food is good, but the standard is not consistant. Very poor selection of real ale, most times I visit there are a number of real ales not available. A distinct lack of atmostphere and being a estate pub do not make families with children welcome at all.

For an 'estate' pub The CB is OK. Beer and food is fine, but serious drinkers should take a short walk to The Cricketers or The Monks Brook.

Pretty pub interior. Fairly up-to-date music. Great meals. Friendly staff. So I don't agree with the second comment (anonymous).

Greetings to all my old friends at the Cleveland. Dave, Rob, John, Pete. Have many good memories from here. I'll look in next time I'm in the UK.
