35 years I've lived in Monkseaton and I still can't get served at the bar, walked out again for the umpteenth time without being served

food has got a lot better since they had a new chef
|
Went in for lunch (17/11/10) to see if the food was any better, the chilli con carne was average and not a very big portion.
|
Went in last Monday (17/08/09). Three real ales on, two Wylam brews and a Mordue. The beer I tried was well kept and conditioned.
The cask mark acreditation shows the quality of the beer now. I'll be back.

i work there and under peter gash and joanne macintyre the place was run into the ground, now we are under new management things seem to be looking up, the dart board is back, food and beer ordering are being done so that we are fully stocked. it is gonna take some time to fix the mess the last management left, but we'll get there, keep the faith!!!

This place gets worse, tried to give it another go and have a meal only to get there at 7.30 p.m. on a Tuesday to be told that no food available, kitchen closing early every day for the forseeable future, reason being, according to the bar staff no-one wants food! Sat with a drink for half an hour and six people asked for meals. What is this pubs problem! Children screaming in lounge till well after 9.00 p.m. does not add to atmosphere. Rating for this pub should be in minus figures, sooner the current management go the better, it can only go up from there as it has definately hit rock bottom.

Been drinking there everyweek for 2 years, previous manager (smoggy) welcoming, food great always had everything behind bar to drink.
New management cr@p, feel sorry for staff who spend half there time apologising to customers, food so so if you can actually get what you order, always running out of various beers, lagers and spirits. Should never happen, manager obviously hasnt got a clue and has never run a pub in his life and thats the way it should have stayed. Will be drinking in Black Horse in future.

Moved in a new manager with new furniture - ALL locals have now moved out!! So managment have now taken to drinking the bar dry themselves! No longer a friendly local - more of unfriendly management!! Come on to the proper pub in the village - THE BLACK HORSE!! Cliffy ya a dimond!

The pub has been recently refurbished and all the locals from the bar have gone elswhere. The dart board has been removed so what am I going to do now?

Cr@p beer, cr@p service cr@p decor. Do your self a favour and drink in the proper pubs in the Village, the Black Horse and the Ship.

This pub has been no better than average for years - but things may be looking up! On a recent trip, the manager talked a good talk: he said that there'd be a refurb soon that would see 6 cask ales installed (there are no more than 1 or 2 at present). Also, he wants to see more freshly prepared food rather than the catering pack stuff. We ordered a Sunday lunch, and 15 minutes later (which I didn't think was too long) we heard him asking his kitchen staff about it. All without us asking (it arrived soon after). Promising.

Very popular locals pub. Beer and wine are kept to a decent standard - nothing special but in no way a bad pub!
