I see things have improved then TEMPEST......and I have never been barred from here or anywhere else for that matter. Neither am I anyone else in another guise.

Fed up with the norm.....Got its own club to rival camra now....called crappo!
Membership is rising and you get a discount on the lovely ales served here.
No sign of mr grumpy anymore has he cheered up or passed over?
1 Feb 2012 12:46
little pricey but a good pint near a station....handy if nothing esle...preferred the old colour scheme though
8 Nov 2011 17:06
Brisk lunchtime trade today, excellant as always...nothing ordinary about this youngs pub!!!
8 Nov 2011 17:03
surprised there arent more Horsham drinkers commenting on this pubs sad closure, thought that might provoke some reaction!
27 Oct 2011 20:03
well , they could have held meetings there to showcase their new brews. Run tutored tastings, sold the pub cheaper beer.I dont know ,Horshambeermonster, the ins and outs of the supply agreement , but Im prettty sure had they put their minds to it something more could have been done.
22 Oct 2011 14:38
RIP .......great shame!
Unpretentious, independent, individual and now sadly closed.....
According to the pubs website, a victim of greedy breweries and rising costs.
Pity those brewers of Horsham didnt do more to help....
21 Oct 2011 07:51
so its now called a hotel , but they dont have rooms
what are they gonna call it next time? a palace for real ale drinkers?
11 Oct 2011 17:15
was here two YEARS ago??? obviously stewed on it then until the pressure became too much and you just had to vent your rage!! Keep up the good work Ken
14 Sep 2011 07:20
The clue is in the score here guys, rated by 100 people and the consensus 4.5!
1 Jul 2011 08:37
Whatever do you mean tradervic?
what, suggest that he is in league with the owners?
or that he has just joined and enthused so heartily about this pub that therefore he should be not quite the genuine article?
No need for me to point that out then....good
Paranoid . A great song , a sad lifestyle!
22 Jun 2011 19:47
popped in today, still rude staff and poor beer ,what is wrong with this pub?
28 Apr 2011 17:03
very strange posting there Virg02.... had many pies here in the past and they were always cut form a whole pie dish with pastry on top and below. So the wife and I went back to check and had lunch there today. Not only the usual pies on the blackboard but also a special pie menu on a seperate piece of paper. I had the lamb and cranberry pie and it was excellant, washed down with a pint of ruby mild followed by a Tim Taylor Landlord both on fine form.
22 Mar 2011 16:39
CAMRA promoted this pub loads when it first changed from a run down brewery owned chain pub into a distinctive free house, it seems a great shame that the owners now seem so anti camra, you would have thought them obvous soul mates.
9 Feb 2011 16:39
yeah , real league of shaddows stuff going on here....reckon they must be in cahoots with the landlady
18 Jan 2011 17:25
Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, Ambleside
Well done BITE ! Finally got a page up for the right ODG !! now you just need to move the photos you have presently posted on the New Dungeon Ghyll and we will be up to date!!
A real cracking bar this!
29 Nov 2010 18:48
lolo a year ago you said on this site that you would never go back to this pub. What made you change your mind??was it the rave reviews by Irene and south london kid??
22 Nov 2010 11:40
Hey guess what ???? another new member to the site and they just love this one pub......am I being a little over suspicious or are they just in cahoots with the (mis) management.
I myself went back to the Plough last weekend and can honestly say that little has changed in the warm welcome department. The beer , brewed on the premises was a big disappointment , when I pointed this out the response was not exactly expected!
5 Oct 2010 18:18
It does seem a little suspicious, both southlondonkid and Irene joined up to this site within an hour of each other, both raved about the pub and plugged everything going....it will be intersting to see other comments they may post if ever again! I notice that the rating also went up! The last time I tried to eat here we were turned away at 2pm because they said the kitchen had been too busy earlier and the chef needed a break! This was however over two years ago, and with the slowdown they may have improved their service.Beer was ok but not a great choice given the amazing brewers on the doorstep!
20 Sep 2010 11:53
where did you you hear good things about this pub? in their adverts??
7 Sep 2010 08:13
nice coat of paint, shame the beer is still dire HW standard range, food menu on the pricey side for lunch.
24 Aug 2010 16:35
0k....what have you lot done with mr g? its been 3 months since his last posting....
12 Aug 2010 17:26
wow what a change here!!! from drug dealing hole to modern jap restaurant complete with a tank full of jellyfish to watch you eat their relatives!! sells a beer made in Horsham to a historic japanese recipe, yeah whatever Ray! Anything to sell a firkin....
10 Aug 2010 08:02
Is "deservebetter" a pseudo for a brewer beginning in D who feels slighted that his beers are not featured in the role of honour published on The Surrey Oaks website?
Now I may not be Mel Gibson.....but as theories go I believe mine stands out....
Well if he can go on here and talk rubbish , why not join in......
9 Aug 2010 20:44
not so good since refurb, 8 of us waited nearly 45 mins for burgers/sandwiches and there were 3 other tables eating. however food was better than previous incarnation....
9 Aug 2010 20:37
The best thing about this pub is where it is, the worst Mr Grumpy drinks here!
25 May 2010 16:05
i see mr G has been causing his usual upsets....this time at The Plough , Coldharbour. He really is losing the plot! Hope the collections going well!!
25 May 2010 15:34
Brother groucho said he would never join a club that would have him as a member.....you cant please all people all of the time, sarah your loss is kens gain!
28 Apr 2010 16:57
hooray free water..................with a smile perhaps. Todays soda is tomorrows champagne. Forget who said it but remember theyre loaded.
Manners maketh man. and they need a sense of humour!
24 Apr 2010 22:52
Happy St Georges Day Here!
I had the home made steak and kidney pudding and my partner had the Roast chicken, washed down with ...St Georges Ale!! a local brew from East Sussex, Perfect out in the garden, only trouble was finding a seat...
Well done for flag flying!
23 Apr 2010 17:25
Has Mr Grumpy turned over a new leaf and changed his name to Mr Happy?
15 Apr 2010 08:02
Pathetic Martin......it takes a change in the law to make you comply, so rude, so cheap, so mean....Merry Xmas one and all, ask for a glass next time you visit....pay back time!
11 Apr 2010 20:02
There seems to be a virus going round Hall and Woodhouse pubs...this joins the list of closed pubs.........Is it Horsham folk really dont like their beers?
Question : If Champagne can only come from France ....surely Sussex bitter should not be brewed in BlanDford!?
6 Apr 2010 08:41
Strange how the two last reviews are so different? Could it be that Emma works for Dave? Im always pleased to see new members join this site but am a little suspicious regarding Emma whose one and only review is so gushing...maybe im looking too deep?
6 Apr 2010 08:20
What I would like to know is are Mr Grumpy and Grumpster related? Its strange but they are never seen out together ...perhaps they are the same miserable person with a split personality?? Does this mean two one way tickets to sheffield for the poor folk of Rusper to spring for?
6 Apr 2010 08:15
Mr G :is that cleaning up after the last pantomime horse race then?? Ive heard of realism but that really is taking things too far....shame on them horses....
15 Mar 2010 13:33
The Mucky Duck Inn, Tismans Common

5 Feb 2010 21:38
Now closed....people of Faygate hang your heads in shame!!!
If you dont drink in your local pub you cant complain when it shuts down.....
18 Jan 2010 16:01
Have not eaten here since it was ran by Phil and Jan Hills, I gather they have now left. However I have heard of egg white omelettes, very american healthy living type food. Surprised chef here hasent heard of them, dont have to be filled or flavoured basically an omelette without the yolks.
7 Nov 2009 15:25
Had a good pint here today!!! Just that its a bit of a rarity.............they must have a new cellar person appointed!!!
15 Oct 2009 12:59
No offence intended , I have always found the beers here to be very good even given the wide choice. Sorry to Sarah if she thought me rude.
2 Sep 2009 19:52
or maybe I had the Owl at the dog and duck down the road instead of the duck at the wise old owl...and am getting confused ...
6 Aug 2009 00:23
have you taken the duck off the menu then Matt?.......I thought it flew out...
6 Aug 2009 00:21
Fantstic pub ,great food and the beers are plentiful and cheap !
3 Aug 2009 19:12
August 1st being a Saturday...............
too much time on line not line cleaning then.......
2 Aug 2009 22:47
whatever happened to that lovely couple who used to run this place so well? I think he was called Phil and his wife Liz? They certainly ran it for a number of years and from my recollection without any argy bargy nonsense from peacekeepers or anyone!!
Rather sounds like the Red Lion has gone the way of so many other (badly) managed houses.....
7 Jul 2009 09:55
This pub just keeps getting better and better went back again a year later and they had five cracking beers on and all on good form.Sat in the huge garden with a big group , we all ate well and no complaints!
The kids all had an impromptu game of football in their field at the back kept them amused for hours while we enjoyed the T Taylors!!
5 May 2009 15:19

23 Nov 2008 15:29
I thought it a legal requirement for pubs to serve drinking water free on request , clearly reading the reviews below this is not the case !! What do other BITE users think?? Should a pub provide free water to walkers??
20 Nov 2008 18:15
Not good beer here sadly...spent loads doing it up but it lost all its old character....very expensive ale ...standard Green King offerings.Lighting very iffy!!!
23 Jun 2008 16:56
The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, Langdale
now this is a superb pub......fantastic staff, great beer, lovely setting ....stayed there with the whole family and they couldnt do enough.

17 Jun 2008 16:31

17 Jun 2008 16:14

19 Mar 2008 00:09
I think angelaw must have visited another pub in the village.....on the many times I have eaten at The Oak I have never had such a bad experience.
Great choice of ales too! six pumps and all good!!
18 Mar 2008 23:58
The Royal Oak, Rusper
long.short, concise or rambling....does it matter? I think whats important is that this pub has been let down. Not by its reviewers sense of journalism, whos to say whats a good hobby?!? Facists...
No its been left out of a national guide to what it does best, serve real ale.
The Good Beer Guide 2013....... NO ENTRY ???????
