The Beachcomber, Seaford

THIS PUB HAS GONE

24 Feb 2014 15:33

The Ship Inn, Lymington

used this pub again as was the best saturday night pub in Lymington back in june 2011. however tried it again last saturday while on holiday and to my amazement the place was practically empty, not a sole at the bar, when i got to the bar three bar tenders rushed to serve me. this does not appear to be the place to drink on saturday nights any more. should survive regardless because it is a restaurant and hotel.

Wyndham Arms, Cullompton

we spent a week in kentisbeare and used this in the evenings, the food is great, the beer is great, landlord and locals very social. would recommend this pub to anyone visiting kentisbeare.Disregard all older reviews of this pub because the present landlord and staff are brilliant. wish we had this pub in my village.

The Ship Inn, Lymington

Tried this pub while on holiday in Lymington, friday and saturday evenings the place was buzzing, great atmosphere, bar staff on the ball. Food is way overpriced so didn`t eat there. Superb position down by the quay, tried other pubs in Lymington, but Ship is best by a country mile.

The Royal Hotel, Portishead

We stayed in a holiday home a few yards from this hotel/pub, September 2010. Called in for a drink one evening just to check it out, ordered a couple of drinks at the bar, was served by a surly barman who could barely pass the time of day. After getting our drinks we were amazed to see there was absolutely nowhere to sit and have a drink. You would have to use the restaurant to get a seat. So my conclusion is , this is not a pub by any stretch of the imagination. After reading previous comments we were expecting great things, but ended up sitting outside on a coldish September night, and as for friendly staff, we never saw any.

Robin Hood, Sheringham

I am so pleased to see this pub is now listed. We had a holiday in Sheringham last September and unfortunately only found this pub half way through the week. This is the best pub in Sheringham by a country mile, we had superb food and service, the quiz night was brilliant, run by the landlady. If we visit Sheringham again we will only use this pub, forget the others, wish we had this pub in our town.

The Crown, Sheringham

tried this pub while on holiday, bar staff all suffering severe personality deficiency, made us about as welcome as a fox in a chicken shed. The live music evening was verging on torture, take some ear defenders and try not to get crushed by the locals who decend on this pub like its the only pub in Norfolk that does live music. Food was about as tasty as the pub, avoid at all costs.

The Longs Arms, Steeple Ashton

stayed in a holiday cottage in this village, spent one night in this pub, very friendly staff, who kindly cooked us a bowl of chips to help the beer go down.
Menu well overpriced , but as previously mentioned, there is nowhere else to eat in this village.

The Drove, Newhaven

we have used the restaurant in this pub for the last ten years, it has had its ups and downs regarding the food and service, but has recently had a makeover inside and things are now very much better. The food is superb and the service faultless, very friendly waiters and waitresses who have obviously been retrained by a new manager, who has got it right. Long may it last, we look foward to our next visit.

The Solent Inn, Ryde

we used this pub during a weeks stay in Ryde, very friendly staff, lovely landlady who does a very good quiz on wed night. Saw a live group on the thursday called LUCID, they were fabulous, will make it bigtime if the right agent gets them. will return for a long weekend and certainly use this pub again, as previous comments stated I agree ,best pub in Ryde, by a country mile.

The Old Plough, Seaford

the food in this pub has improved over the last few months, there are some good deals to be had in the evenings. the curry night is very good value, curry and a pint for a fiver, cant be bad.Still yet to see if the landlord has improved.

The Old Ship Inn, Upwey

We stayed in a holiday cottage last september and used this pub almost every day for food and drinks in the evening. The food was superb, even the steaks we had were cooked to perfection. Good choice of real ales, two log fires every night, friendly staff, what more could you ask. Best pub in Upwey by far.

The Riverhouse Inn, Upwey

We called in this so called inn, nobody seems to know if it is a pub or a restaurant, one thursday night, we asked for a table for two. Have you booked, was the stern reply from one of the wooden barman/waiters , No we replied, so he pointed to a table partly obscured by a huge wooden beam right next to a freezer which was blowing out cold air. After two minutes we were starting freeze from the cold air blowing out of the freezer. We politely asked if we could have another table only to be told there were none. Bearing in mind the restaurant was virtually empty, so we put our coats on and walked out with not a word from the two dumb waiters. So we never got to taste the food and we will never visit this place again, the place and the people were totally bland. If you want to see how a good pub/restaurant should be try the old ship inn just down the road.

Ye Olde Smugglers Inn, Alfriston

visited this pub out of curiosity, as with one of the previous comments we found it to be a very closed shop to outsiders. We did eventually get talking to a couple, but they were also outsiders just testing the water.will not be visiting this pub again.

The West Quay, Brighton

went to this pub on a wednesday night for a friends leaving do, and was pleasantly surprised. Great atmosphere friendly bar staff and great location.

miserable landlord, substandard food, quiz night an absolute farce, what more can I say.

The Flying Fish, Newhaven

once again i would like to make it known that this was a great pub when martin and janet had it. The present landlady has no customer skills whatsoever, myself and several friends will vouch for this, and the proof of the pudding is , we all drink in another pub. Having had my previous comments removed from the website for whatever reason, i hope this stays on long enough for people to see an honest comment.

The Seven Sisters, Seaford

not surprised no reviews on this pub, overpiced beer robotic bar staff, quiz night was like the reading of a will. Should turn it into a library, would have more atmosphere than this excuse for a pub.

The Hope Inn, Newhaven

This is one of the best pubs in Newhaven, recently refurbished and has a great area upstairs where you can watch the ferries coming in and out while you eat.
Food has always been good, service is good, friendly staff, somewhere to take friends lunchtime and know they will be imrpessed. Dont want too many people to find this place, its great as it is.

The Newfield Arms, Newhaven

this pub is now closed

The Old Boot, Seaford

This pub is fine for the youngsters on a friday or saturday night , have eaten there on two occasions mid-day and both times the food was absolutely awfull. When we complained to the landlord his answer was, No one else has complained today. So we can only assume that all the other diners were quite happy to eat any old rubbish they were served. We will never eat in this pub again, would rather have a McDonalds .

The Jolly Boatman, Newhaven

Great friendly pub with some real characters, the quiz nights can be great fun, and the landlord is the salt of the earth. Beer is always superbly kept and the food on quiz night is treat.
