user reviews of the Drove, Newhaven

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Visited here for the first time yesterday as we were passing and needed lunch. This is a Brewers Fayre with a Premier inn attached. They had London Pride on draught which was O.K. and reasonably priced at £3.20. The staff were friendly and helpful and you felt welcome.

The food menu was the normal one for these type of places but the food was pretty dire. Although superficially reasonably priced it wasn't good value. I would rather have paid more for something I enjoyed than eat stale chips and a tasteless steak and kidney pudding with little steak and no kidney. I got a voucher for a meal at half price in future but I won't be going back.

we have used the restaurant in this pub for the last ten years, it has had its ups and downs regarding the food and service, but has recently had a makeover inside and things are now very much better. The food is superb and the service faultless, very friendly waiters and waitresses who have obviously been retrained by a new manager, who has got it right. Long may it last, we look foward to our next visit.

This is only a personal opinion of this establishment very loosely described as a restaurant.I believe they have only one cooking apparatus consisting of a giant microwave into which they shove all their prepacked prepared meals which they then foist onto unsuspecting customers.Maybe they should send them to Ant and Dec for the "Im A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here" program as a bushtucker trial ,it should be interesting to see how many would be eaten.

Well this place is soo hit and miss you wouldn't believe it. One day you can go there (like I did a couple fo weeks ago) and the food can be good, service with a smile and was al pretty good.
THEN I went again yesterday and it was awful, the food took 50 minutes to arrive (it was only a sandwich!!!), the tables were left uncleared for over an hour, the staff couldn't even look at us let alone smile, when I complained about the time it took the man on the til said'they is a sign telling you you have to wait!!'I told him I could understand this for a meal but not a sandwich and some coleslaw, this has now put me off completely and I won't be going back. A shame really they have put a lot of effort into this place, it is now nice, clean and tidy but after speaking to a staff member who works in the kitchen and hearing their stories I definately won't be eating there again, perhaps a tour of the kitchen before you eat might be in order?

"I can't believe I went and did that stupid shit again" (Puke by Eminem.
For him it was remarrying Kim.
For me it was eating here.
Slow, inept staff whose attitude seemed to be that I was there to serve them. A mistreated pint of Spitfire (this should be made an arrestable offence) and variable food. My companion's curry was OK (presumably made off site and brought in) but I've seen better steaks on my cat's bum and there is more to grilling a tomato than scorching a raw one. The only saving grace is this one is better than the one in Cardiff.
