Trents, Chichester

Went in here on 15 November - one of the worst bars I've ever been to. Ignored by miserable looking barman for a few minutes, even then he didn't worry about saying please or thanks when he did eventually serve me. A group of loud businessmen were sitting by the bar, groping cackling women dressed as saucy French maids (given the baguette display in front of the bar - maybe there was a promotion on? God only knows what for. I wondered if I'd walked into a sleazy French-themed hostess bar.)

The pinnacle was paying over £4.25 for a pint of Becks. In central London most pubs aren't even at the £3.80 mark for the same product. I left shortly after, along with the two women on the table next to me who were frankly offended by the staff not stopping the offensive behaviour of the screeching businessmen. Their website boasts"Setting new standards in Chichester" - I think that's probably more accurate than Trents think!

The Riverside, Vauxhall

In Summer this place is PACKED outside, and you can't really go wrong being by the river. Haven't eaten here in a while after feeling that it was just a touch too pricey for what you were getting. But nice selection of booze, and the bar staff seem to know what they're doing. For now...!

The Jolly Gardeners, Vauxhall

I know I've posted before, but I like to keep up to date with my opinions... The Jolly Gardiners is a strange thing. It's an entirely German pub, in an area not known for being brilliant, but it's still mad good. The staff REMAIN really knwledgeable about the beer they are selling, I've never seen anyone being surly or unfriendly, and I can't think of anywhere else that would sell the beers they do.

Excellent

The Canton Arms, South Lambeth

Since the refurb, the food is really good here. It's a rare kind of place that has me trying food that I would never think of eating any other time (maybe I'm just not adventurous...), and I've never been disappointed with a dish yet. Maybe I'm making a bit of a mistake by saying that here, because it's really nice having a highly competent gastropub around the South Lambeth area, and I should rightfully keep it a secret to ensure my place there!

Also nice to have a place serving 3 ales, and the staff are always friendly. The only downside is... erm.. nope. No downside :-)

The Jolly Gardeners, Vauxhall

I really like this place. The staff have always been really attentive whenever I've been in there, and the schnitzel is good too (although to be fair - where else can you get schnitzel in a pub??).

I really hope it carries on doing well, as it would be a real loss to the area if it went.

The Fox, Caterham

Possibly the worst fish & chips I've ever had. Tartare sauce had 'turned', peas didn't taste of any kown vegetable and the chips were foul. God only knows how a pub can mess that up.

Been twice - and the only reason is because it's halfway through a popular Time Out country walk. A pile of rubble would have a better atmosphere - so we can only hope the next big hurricane in Englad finds it;s way to The Fox.

19:20, Clerkenwell

What an awful bar. Crap layout promotes heavy bottle-necking downstairs, rude/ignorant bar-staff who either can't understand English, or won't serve you if you look like you've been mainly on a different floor from where the bar is.

I'd never go back.

Vauxhall Griffin, Vauxhall

Wyvils is now open again - dare I say it "Under New Management" :)

Was in there on the re-opening night, and it still looked the same, but bar staff were friendly, decent beers behind the bar - and have been told by the manager that a refurb is happening in February.
