The Half Moon, Putney

I'm surprised at the coment below. Out of all of London's pub music venues the moon is one of the best run and it's strong reputation is well deserved. It's a fantastic and friendly venue to drink at, and to play at too if you're in a band. And it's the only music venue of it's kind left in south west london, all the others are in camden and shoreditch these days. keep up the good work guys.

The Railway, Putney

I actually witnessed a glassing incident here involving two men in their 60's, on an early saturday afternoon. Surreal. It won't be long before it holds that precious top spot in the Borough's worst pub chart. Come on The Railway, you can do it!

The Spencer Arms, Putney

Was the Putney Page, now back to the old name. The reason it's called the 'Spencer', trivia fans, is because the common is owned by the Earl Spencer i.e. Lady Diana Spencer's brother. And while I'm at it, the reason the late Cyclist's Rest opposite was so called, is because this part of Putney had Europe's first concrete velodrome (bicycle track). The volodrome was demolished in the early 20th century to make way for luxury housing. The pub was demolished in the early 21st century to make way for luxury flats.

The Quill, Putney

Glad to see the back of the place. Long live luxury flats.

Bar Coast, Putney

How times change. Bar Coast was once the busiest, most exciting and even glamourous venue in Putney. It was the epitomy of the pre-club bar of the late 90's. Its fall from grace was rapid and severe, and its alpha-bar status amongst Putney and Roehampton's younger, trendier drinkers has been taken by the Jolly Gardners.

Bar Coast is not missed by anybody. It's a Waggamamas now. Cool.

Star and Garter, Putney

{Further to that comment about it being too loud} what I've always found in Bar M is that their sound system is cheap and sounds muffled and appaling. This is strange considering quite a bit of investment has gone into this place. Some pubs would be better off playing no music at all, and this is one of them.

The Catherine Wheel, Goring

Visited Goring while on a boat trip up the Thames. Out of the three pubs we stopped in, this was by far the best in the village. A wonderful country pub.

The John Barleycorn, Goring

Lazy manager was sitting at the bar with a loser alcoholic regular, chatting about the quality of the asses of his own female staff, loud enough for us and other customers to hear. Absolutley shameful.

The Half Moon, Putney

The only pub in Putney that can claim true world-wide fame! The Stones, The Who, U2 have all played there and they've just had Kasabian among others. Not bad for an old boozer on Lower Richmond Road and certainly more of an interesting history than Putney's chain-bar massacre. Love the photos on the walls of who's played there. Sort of place you take a friend from out of town.

Hudsons Wine Bar, Putney

I'm surprised to read comments about the service at Hudsons. I go there regularly and have always found the staff engaging, helpful and smiley. Go there mostly for the food, but have also popped in for morning coffee, lunch as well as a cosy bottle of vino for 2.

The Idle Hour, Putney

Friendly, helpful staff, fantastic food, good wine list, nice atmosphere. Still generally pretty quiet, but then Bierex (the premises' previous incarnation) never really took off. It's still early days though. One of Putney's more quality venues.

The Cedar Tree, Putney

Friendly staff - that makes such a difference. One of very few pubs in Putney that has genuine character and individuality, though perhaps not to everyones taste. Thumbs up.

The Fox, Putney

The male staff at the Fox clearly do have an attitude problem, and I sincerely doubt they are aware of the reputation they have as an unfriendly pub. As is usually the case, this unfriendlyness spills out onto the other side of the bar, with groups of arsey builders giving "wotchoo-lookin-at" faces as you walk in. An uneasy atmosphere, a bland, far too brightly lit decor, and worst of all a rude, arrogant manager. Much better pubs in the area.
