The White Hart, Crystal Palace
Oh dear. I used to love this place but it's so in love with itself its forgotten us customers.
11 Aug 2012 14:52
A decent enough pub but they do seem to play catch up to Grape & Grain across the road. Westow House attracts a different crowd admittedly.
11 Aug 2012 14:51
Under new management with a serious focus on food and three real ales (minimum) last time I was there.

The Grape and Grain, Crystal Palace
A truly lovely pub, with welcoming staff who champion real ale.
3 a pint with a CAMRA card too.
On Sundays there's live music from about 4.00pm, and on Mondays a 17 piece swing band. It's just a great great pub. I wish BeerInTheEvening would note when ownership changes, as the 6.0/10.0 rating is undeserved.

Simply a great pub.
The management and staff are all so friendly, there's decent food and I love it.
I have actually moved to Cockfosters - way up in North London, but a monthly (minimum!) pilgrimage to "The Jack" is a must.

Really lovely. Food pricey, but the portions were huge, and the staff friendly.

As Clapham High Street continues its slow decline, thank goodness for places like this!
1 Jul 2008 12:09
Went here last week - it's great. Really friendly staff, and several guest ales to try.
1 Jul 2008 12:02
Fantastic. Really lovely pub, and a garden you can sit in without getting choked on cigarette smoke. Add friendly staff and tastey food and they've got a winner here!

Jack Stamps Beer House, Streatham
Will be replaced by a Foxton's.
So watch out for Streatham being renamed as South Brixton, Balham East or Clapham Common East. ;)
9 Feb 2008 17:41
A completely average pub, in a location that you just have to visit.
15 Jan 2008 00:02
Went for the first time last week, and thought it was nice. Friendly bar staff, a mock coal fire and comfy seats. :)

The White Hart, Crystal Palace
Was in last night, and the bar staff were fine, friendly even.
26 Dec 2007 20:32
Best pub in Streatham, by a mile. Helped by decent, generous, value for money food and friendly staff.
12 Oct 2007 01:24
I've had terrible service here - it is getting better, slowly.
In a way I'm glad - I was seriously thinking that it was all in my head.
But what is it with the heating?
12 Oct 2007 01:21
It's OK, it wants to be extra special which makes the fact that it's nothing special seem even worse.
A request for food had the response 'No.'. No explanation, nothing more, end of. Which was nice.
26 Sep 2007 18:15
Went in tonight for the first time in ages. First time it was a traditional pub, then it went all white and too trendy - now it's gone back to a more traditional feel with the emphasis on music, good service and friendly staff.
12 Sep 2007 00:53
The Bison is currently closed for refurbishment... and a rebrand.
31 Aug 2007 15:40
Visited tonight and although the pub is fine the barmaid was miserable.
22 Aug 2007 23:34
Went here the other night, thought it was fine. Happy hour bargains and decent enough ccktails. But nothing special, really.
11 Aug 2007 10:37
Best pub in Perth? Maybe if you like ripped seats with the foam hanging out and aren't fussy about choice of drink. Ordered food, portions appeared on the small side but turned out to be very filling, and the service was friendly. Some TLC to the fixtures and fittings wouldn't go amiss.
5 Aug 2007 23:46
On a recent visit to Perth, this was the best of three pubs, by far. Four guest ales on offer! Friendly staff and a great view too.
5 Aug 2007 23:44
It's nicer outside than in. Needs some TLC, the service was efficient, but not particularly friendly.
24 Jul 2007 20:45
Probably the best pub in the centre of Croydon - can echo the opinion about attentive staff. Friendly, pleasant and a good selection of ales.
21 Jul 2007 22:55
Sticky tables, lots of flies and filthy toilets. An excuse for a pub.
9 Jul 2007 11:22
Included in my full English was the sum total of two mushrooms!
It seemed very stingey.

The Horse and Groom, Streatham
The Horse and Groom has reopened and is transformed. It's been given the TLC that it deserves, and is also a completely no smoking pub. It's bright, with comfy chairs, new pool tables although bizarrely, no door in the gents cubicle. It is Streatham after all... ;)
5 Jun 2007 11:35
The Duke of Devonshire, Balham
Back at the Duke today - prices of food astronomical for what you get. If you want decent food nip across to The Clarence across the road.
13 May 2007 21:37
The Horse and Groom, Streatham
The Horse and Groom REOPENS on 11th May, after a refurbishment. Watch this space!
10 May 2007 23:46
Would be patrons getting off at Balham will be surprised by the trek to this pub - it is actually a few hundred yards from Clapham South underground station.
Service can be slow, and the pint I requested came in a glass with a tide-mark a quarter of the way down.
There is nothing about this place that is worth a special, or return, visit.
16 Apr 2007 12:36
Charming pub, in a lovely location, with nice staff. Will definitely be back.

The Horse and Groom, Streatham
This pub was completely boarded up when I passed yesterday.
4 Mar 2007 12:47
Perfect Blend combines London's love of coffee and alcohol, in one venue. A coffee shop during the day, the venue also has a full bar, with a variety cocktails as well as Guiness available.
28 Feb 2007 17:30
The London Apprentice, Old Isleworth
Was here last night, very friendly service in a village-like location. Recommended.
23 Feb 2007 14:56
This is a great pub. The Adnams Oyster beer that they serve is fabulous, and the service is always with a cheery smile.
19 Feb 2007 17:48
The Canton Arms, South Lambeth
Very nice pub, really friendly, helpful staff and great food.
12 Feb 2007 00:18
I do like this place even though I think they have gone too far with the tacky souvenirs dotted around the place. The service is excellent, and I took my Spanish friend who said that the tapas were very very good, and she should know...!

The White Hart, Crystal Palace
Was here last night and really liked it. Staff were really friendly, nice selection of beers, and a good mixed crowd - all ages were there.
11 Feb 2007 10:30
Brilliant place - a real find.
A lovely bar downstairs, and a great restaurant upstairs. The service, drinks and food were top notch.
2 Feb 2007 00:50
The Glasshouse Stores, Piccadilly Circus
Have been a few times - friendly staff, comfortable and in a really central location.
21 Jan 2007 11:06
This place is brilliant. I love the kitsch 'sitting room' at the back of the pub, with its bay window from the original building.
Very nice, look forward to going back.
26 Dec 2006 23:26
I went here for the first time last week, and I did have some preconceptions about what a pub like Bread and Roses would be like. I was expecing a traditional, Victorian style boozer, with happy union member staff and the usual pub fare (Stella, Fosters etc.)
First things first, the pub is more of a trendy bar, with laminate flooring, tables and chairs and bright lights. In fact it reminded me of an office furniture shop more than anything else, and wasn't particularly welcoming.
I found the staff to be very friendly, and there was a varied range of drinks on offer. My companion who normally has JD and Coke, tried the alternative Buffalo Tree Whisky and Coke and is now a convert. There was also two or three real ales on offer.
Will I be back? Perhaps. If I make a trip to Clapham I would more than likely pop in, it's still better than most other pubs along the High Street, so well worth the detour.
18 Nov 2006 10:30
Went back to the Mansion tonight. When I went in I received a warm welcome from the staff who recommended the organic cider (I've had so many the name escapes me....!) and had another great evening.
Part of me wants to shout about this place from the rooftops... part of me wants to keep it as a secret that I can impress friends with...!
16 Nov 2006 00:51
Have only been here once but enjoyed the nice atmosphere inside. One thing - are all the seats and tables so rickety? Surprisingly annoying!
29 Oct 2006 17:32
A paint-by-numbers chain pub. Streatham needs decent pubs, not these anonymous chains.
29 Oct 2006 17:27
The Duke of Albemarle, Mayfair
Apparently this pub has been bought by Sir Alan Sugar who will be changing its use. "Apparently" mind...
29 Oct 2006 17:14
This is good fun, a good way to start a night out. The 12 admittance includes a cocktail, refills a 6. If you view it as a touristy thing and are not looking for anything more this is a laugh.
29 Oct 2006 17:12
At first glance, Perfect Blend doesn't know what it wants to be. By day a lovely coffee shop, with a good food menu, by night a trendy bar with a nice cocktail list.
It is fairly comfortable, but they just can't seem to get the service right. I waited 45 minutes for breakfast one Sunday morning was told it was because 'they're ALWAYS busy' - so why not get extra staff? Well, they did. For a few months, service was fast and friendly. However, the friendly, helpful bar manager appears to have been dispensed with after a few months, mores the pity, as service has slipped again.

The Barrowboy and Banker, London Bridge
Nice enough pub, great for meeting up with friends as it is in a great position.
26 Oct 2006 17:45
The Duke of Devonshire, Balham
Just across the road from The Clarence, and used to serve as a back up when The Clarence was too busy. Always had a great time, there's a good range of beers and a vibrant mix of people. I used to use it as a substitute for The Clarence because on the last few trips to Balham I have come straight here instead, although that should not be taken as a reflection of The Clarence.
26 Oct 2006 17:42
I love the Clarence. A great selection of beers, questions about them answered by really friendly staff, and tastey food to boot. Plus a nice little courtyard area for when the sun is shining. I love to visit during the day, as evenings (especially weekends) is standing room only.
26 Oct 2006 17:37
Had a really nice time here last time I visited, and can echo the comment about friendly staff.
26 Oct 2006 17:34
Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street
My second visit to this pub this week, the coal fire was very welcoming!
For history, you can't go wrong here, but if you are looking for a comfortable sit down after a long day you might be disappointed, as hard wooden benches seem to be the order of the day.
As it's a Sam Smiths pub prices are great. I wouldn't hesitate to go back.
25 Oct 2006 21:10
Went there tonight to escape the rain... and wasn't impressed. Little flies everywhere - landing on your pint, in front of your face... on the tables. Disgusting. And a nasty smell near the bar that makes it impossible to enjoy your drink, (a range of the usual Stells to some guest ales) assuming you can get past the flies. Very disappointing, I usually enjoy Nicholson's pubs.

Having lived in Streatham for over a year now, I had given up on Mint, after experiencing very slow, very poor service there. I decided to give it another go recently, and there is definitely a change in the place. The staff here now are very pleasant, and there is a wide range of cocktails (3.90 per cocktail from 5.30 - 7.30pm Mon - Fri), as well as the usual Kronenberg, Magners etc. Service is not fast, but again, compared to a year ago, is much much better.
Food is good but perhaps a bit on the pricey side, although a two for one offer on Mondays is good value.

This place is now known as Mint, and appears to be recently under new management. If it's not new management, there is definitely a change in the place. I am just back from a lazy Sunday afternoon in a brilliant pub in South London. Friendly staff, a relaxed atmosphere and really tasty food.
Walking home I realised it was the first pub in absolultely AGES that I have been to, and haven't had to justify some bad aspect of it. You know the thing, when you go and the beer is cheap, but the tables are sticky. Or the food is great, but you had to wait ages for it. Or the food is cheap but the staff are weird.
No, here everything came together. Friendly staff, good service, great food. I can't wait to go back.
Well done The Mansion, Gypsy Hill.

Pursuit of Hoppiness, Bridport
Superb addition to the Bridport drinking scene!
The previous post is bizarre : I have never experienced the service they have and its totally unrepresentative of the friendly and knowledgeable staff there and the great selection of beers, ciders and wines on offer.
