The Waddington Arms, Waddington

Lovely old pub. Popped in while I was visiting the area. Good selection of beers, good food, and friendly staff.

Corner Pin Inn, Doncaster

Popped in here while I was working in the area. Fantastic place! Met by friendly landlady, and a few friendly locals. Great selection of beers on. (Just a week too early for their beer festival unfortunately).
Asked for some sandwiches, but they had stopped doing food at lunchtimes. However, the landlady sent out for some bread, raided her fridge, and did me a massive round of ham sandwiches! What a great place. The one down side (for me) is that this pub is 250 miles away from where I live.

The White Horse, Steyning

I think bars like this do have their place, but what a shame to turn the White Horse pub into "White's" bar. Tired-looking teenagers serving over-priced drinks. Sterile atmosphere. Perhaps I'm just getting old, but these types of pub conversions are not a patch on their previous incarnations.

The Caxton Arms, Brighton

Perhaps we visited this pub on an off day, but it was not a pleasant atmosphere, the Guinness tasted a bit of disinfectant, and the 'garden' is just a concrete bunker without a roof. Sorry, but I was really not impressed.

Royal Oak, Lewes

Popped in with a couple of friends for an after-work drink one Tuesday. The pub was almost empty, with a couple of locals with dogs at the bar, but the music was so loud we had to shout to each other to be heard. (Understandable for a Friday or Saturday night, but not 6pm on a Tuesday). We did not feel particularly welcome and left after one quick drink for the more lively, but quieter, Lewes Arms.

The Cricketers Arms, Wisborough Green

Popped into this pub for a bit of lunch with my partner a couple of Saturdays ago. Despite it being busy (always a good sign), the staff were fantastically friendly and helpful, and our food (which was delicious) came really quickly. Great atmosphere.Shall definately be coming back when I'm next in the area.

The Green Man, Horsted Keynes

Great pub. Have popped in twice recently for a Saturday lunch. Staff are always friendly, and the food portions are very generous. Good beer selection too.

The Bull Inn, Newick

Went there on a recent Saturday lunchtime. Haven't been for years, but was pleased to see it's still a great, friendly pub, with a warm welcome, good beer, and a great menu.

The Black Horse Inn, Lewes

What has happened to this pub?! They don't seem to entice people in, or entice them to stay. Saturday night music often consists of anything from Rolf Harris to classical! Beer is very very pricey. At least they've now removed the cat litter tray from under the front window. This is not a bad, or unfriendly pub, it just needs its welcoming and lively old self to come back.

The Royal Albion, Maidstone

Popped in there one lunchtime, as I was visiting Maidstone. Quiet, but very friendly. Lovely building with a great view out the front window. Shepherd Neame was very good. Food was lovely, if a little over-priced. Agree with the previous comment about the clutter of bar stools. Nevertheless, a very nice visit was had.

The West Hill, Brighton

Great pub this. Went there for the first time recently. Friendly staff. Great atmosphere. And a very entertaining quiz.

The Lamb Inn, West Wittering

We popped into this pub on a whim. Very friendly place. Had the fish and chips from their 'light meals' menu - gorgeous and certainly not a small portion. Even though the pub was busy on this Sunday afternoon, the staff still took their time to be polite and welcoming. I highly recommend this pub.

The Pelham Arms, Lewes

Totally agree with the last comment. Used to go in there a lot, but now there is no warm welcome. Haven't seen a single smile from the bar staff, or the landlord, since it was taken over. What a shame as the Pelham was a lively, friendly place with familiar faces and a cheery atmosphere. Not anymore though.

The Crow and Gate, Crowborough

I found the food in this pub very good. Friendly and professional service too. Nice beer garden, (although right next the A road). A very worthwhile trip.

The Star, Haywards Heath

Went here recently during a couple of lunchtimes. Found the bar staff on both occasions sour-faced and impolite. Did not feel welcome at all.

The Iron Duke, Hove

Great pub! Fantastic quiz nights. Friendly staff, fun atmosphere. Punters were a real good crowd when I went. Haven't tried the food, but am told by reliable sources that it's very good.

Hop Poles, Brighton

This pub had passed me by until now. Nice discovery. Staff were extremely pleasant. Will definately be returning.

The Cow, Brighton

Seems the previous reviewers are right. Nice place, but the service is just very poor. Not unfriendly, just inept.
