The Royal George Inn, Appledore

Unfortunately this pub is now closed. Rumour is that, following a long and expensive refurb, it is to be re-opened as a GastroPub. Yet another historic Appledore premises about to lose its character and atmosphere, it seems.

My wish came true.
During the past year, this pub has become "The Champ."
Great beers, brilliant musical entertainment of all genres and great food.
Very friendly and welcoming pub.

The Seagate Hotel, Appledore

Now under new ownership. All music gigs cancelled - even Halloween, Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. Rumour is that it will close sometime during winter for refurbishment and re-open as hotel/restaurant with NO ENTERTAINMENT.

The Seagate Hotel, Appledore

Regular Monday night music session and regular & Friday local musicians get-together with guests no longer take place. Very disappointed not to be able to play as usual. It used to be a big part of my holiday.
Fridays now have guest bands and people are no longer encouraged to join in. No longer a fun place to visit, with a different crowd inhabiting the place and no sign of any decent management or service.

Hopefully, one day, someone will make a go of this puib. However, once again its closed and the rumour is that the owner want to de-license it and use it as his private dwelling. This move must be objected to!!

It's now re-opened as "The Champ." Calls itself a "Lager & Wine Bar," however they do have keg beer and the normal range of spirits. If you don't like stuffed animals as a decor, probably not for you.

Stonemasons, Ilminster

We popped in here for an early evening meal as we were staying locally. Yes it's a large "chain pub." However, it's clean, fairly comfortable and has plenty of seating. There were three decent cask ales (Marstons) and a large menu. Nothing special, just pub grub. Service was a little slow behind the bar - there were only two staff working, supplemented by a third every now and then. Two 8oz steaks with all the trimmings, 10.00. Bargain. They were cooked properly and as we ordered. They also arrived at our table within 15 minutes of being ordered.
If its fine dining you want this isn't for you. But if its good grub at a good price, with a decent pint, this is it.

Harbour Inn, Porthleven

What a pity.
Had an evening meal in the "quieter bar." It seemed that the staff couldn't wait to get rid of us so that they could set up for breakfast in the morning. It's also a hotel.
So we went into the other bar. No connecting way through, so you have to go outside and go in again.
It's a large bar with fruit machines. pool table at the end. A band "Bucket of Blues" were playing. Might be all right if they sack their drummer!! He seemed to think that it was a 'who can play loudest competition.' Several people came and went because he was so intrusive.
Skinners beer was good, but wasn't impressed with the 35p charged for soda in a white wine spritzer.

The Chainlocker and Shipwrights, Falmouth

Popped in for a "swift half" whilst exploring Falmouth. It turned into three pints. Very friendly lady behind the bar. Great beers - Cornish Knocker went down extremely well. Will definitely visit again when in town.

The White Horse Inn, Bradford on Tone

Unfortunately we don't live in this area. However, we have been to this pub on several occasions, having chanced upon it a couple of years ago. Service, food, beers and wine are always excellent. Very good value.

The Devil's Stone Inn, Shebbear

Defintely a locals pub. They crowd the bar and are very reluctant to let you get near it. Beer is Ok and wine too. However the restaurant food leaves a lot to be desired.

The Cross Keys, Norton Fitzwarren

Customer service non existent. Use to be a Chef and Brewer, doesn't seem to be now. Menu choice very depleted. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!

Laurels Inn, Petrockstowe

Recently refurbished. It's light, bright and with friendly staff. Great pint of Reverend James bitter and also Addlestones cider (a half only I'm afraid, as i was driving.) Shall definitely return to sample their food.

Royal Standard, Hayle

Not a great experience here. Sat in the only seats available which happened to be under the tv. As soon as we sat down the barman used the remote to turn up the volume very loud. Obviously we weren't supposed to sit there, even though nobody was even watching what was on. Lots of foul-mouths playing pool. Won't bother to return.

Bucket Of Blood, Phillack

As there are several signs saying that children are not allowed at the bar, Its no surprise that the barman was unhappy at a child being allowed to sit on a barstool.
We visited this place last year. Great beer, great food and friendly staff. Will definitely go again if and when in the area and have recommended it to friends.
