Had a very good Sunday lunch here last week, top notch friendly service and even when my pal complained abouth a very small piece of pork belly, they brought him another complete one..with a smile...excellent all round good ales and wines, but I do agree about the accoustics, very noisy, especially on the Sunday what with all the crouch end newbies and yummy mummies out displaying their brats to all...
But overall...a good place, worth a detour

I'm not sure who was behind the refurb of this place, but they've somehow turned it into a cacophonous echo chamber. I assume all of the wood and tiling means the acoustics have been affected during the revamp. Sadly it means it's a struggle to hear anyone around you on a busy night as a result. Shame as it does LOOK pretty grand!

second visit since it reopened. some good things particularly the ales but a couple of real downers.
the acoustics make conversation hard when its busy. the sound just echoes off the brick. when its like this turn the music off as it just makes it worse.

big moan about price of soft drinks. i never moan about prices but to charge 2.10 for a half pint of coke (from the gun) is outrageous...more so when a pint is 3.10. they wouldnt do this with beer as there would be a riot (can you imagine them charging 4 for a pint of 1664 and 3 for a half) so don't take the piss with soft drinks....the management should be ashamed of themselves.

The Maynard is currently closed from 22 Oct 2011 for about 3 weeks for a another refurb - mostly they plan to add al fresco seating at the front and generally tart it up a bit with better dining facilities and hopefully brighten up the garden. Matt the current manager has moved on to another GK pub but Darius and Danuta are expected back when it reopens. Meanwhile the existing punters wander the streets of crouch end in search of a decent pint.

The Maynard was the perfect place to hold my 60th birthday party - easy to find and in the heart of Crouch End. The courtyard at the back was a great setting for a summer evening and later on we made use of the indoor area too. Lots of guests - many of whom were local - commented what a great venue! I was able to enjoy my party because I had so much help from the staff there who planned with me from the beginning. Lauren, the Head Chef, discussed my preferences for the menu with me well in advance and produced a wonderful vegetarian buffet - all home made from the freshest ingredients. Rosa helped serve and was always around when I needed her. James was incredibly accommodating, helpful and friendly, too. I sailed through the evening relaxed and happy. Just as it should be when you are hosting an event. My thanks to everyone who helped make this such a memorable occasion. I'm not one to go to pubs very often but if you're looking to have a party in Crouch End, this really is the best!
