A bit faux hipster as opposed to pub but a decent enough place serving well kept ales. Had a pint of Hillfoot a darker looking bitter from Sheffield that was probably the best pint of the day and a sub £4 pint which is good value considering how many places are knocking you over a fiver for any pint. Though someone did come in after me and had a pint of some trendy sour keg brew that set him back £6.60 - we all have our own tastes and have to pay for them. Snarling_Mallard - 3 Oct 2018 21:45 |
Small busy pub in what appears to be the middle of nowhere. It was full of young professionals. A great contrast to the depressed looking Old School Yard, a locals pub, further down Long Lane. Good range of mainly mcrobrewery beers. There seems to be a tie-up with the One Mile End Brewery - I had their Great Tom Mild, which was excellent. The only food available was sharing plates and a ploughman's lunch. A bit expensive for what you got. However it is good to find a modern pub which does not rely on food to turn a profit. simontheeditor - 11 Feb 2017 15:39 |
Unfortunately arrived here on a really hot day and after a few ales. The beers tried and warm, a Hackney and Adnams were tired tasting, a victim of the hot weather? Staff quick and chatty, maybe just a bad day. pwilkins - 8 Jul 2015 13:20 |
Made the fairly long walk from London Bridge to this small, but cosy pub in Bermondsey. It only has a few tables, but has a fairly bohemian feel. Food was still being served (it must have been around 9pm). Ales were Five Points Railway Porter, Southwark Bermondsey Best, Hackney H and Adnams Lighthouse. Service was good. I wasn't aware (until I read the previous review) that this was a sister pub to the Queen's Head. Unlike the Queen's Head, this one does not currently stock a real cider. Although there are cider pumpclips that suggest it may have done in the past. So it's inferior in my opinion. Nevertheless, still a nice little pub. blue_scrumpy - 1 Feb 2015 19:38 |
A two pub crawl of SE1 beginning with the STT and then the Royal Oak, Tabard St. STT is the sister pub of the Queen’s Head off Gray’s Inn Rd and had a similar feel. Central bar, in a sort of t-shaped room. Got there at 5.20 on Thursday and had the pick of all bar two tables, which were adorned with a candle and the food and bottled beer menus. Rather like the Queen’s Head it just lacked pub atmosphere and I suppose this must be the intention, less like a traditional boozer. The beer was ok, there were three clips and one was turned round so the only two beers on were Adnam’s Lighthouse and Windsor & Eton Windsor knot. Plumped for the W&E which was ok but nothing remarkable, the other clip came on and it was an Amber Ale which looked and tasted almost the same as the W&E. Because of the lack of options we moved on. Can’t see us returning, nothing inherently wrong with it, and the service was quick, efficient and friendly, it’s just not my type of pub. 6.5/10 Monkdawallydahonk - 21 Mar 2014 13:38 |
