Having parked the car outside the Plough and having ignored other nearby pubs during our walk today, it was always a foregone conclusion that we would reward ourselves with a drink in this red ironstone C17 pub at the end of our ramble. Cosy and welcoming inside, the three handpulls were all in very good order (Pedigree, Church Farm Harry's Heifer/Session IPA). Mind your head however if you are anywhere near 6' tall.

We were looking for a quiet lunch spot with a log fire. We have been under a bit of pressure and wanted to unwind and chat.

The Plough was quite busy when we entered at 12.30 but we got a warm welcome and the fire was alight even if enclosed in a log burning stove. Queen sang out "Don't stop me" quietly from the overhead Muzak speakers but at a volume that meant that you could listen but also talk over it. There was a hum of conversation from a group of six local men in the corner who obviously met for lunch and to put the world right. We sat by the fire, warmed to the atmosphere and ordered a light lunch. I was tempted by the game pie. A smallish portion but adequate and quite definitely home baked and tasty. The home made pâté and baguette that my wife ate was well prepared and obviously home made. My pint of Moreland Golden Hen (by Greene King) was in good nick and the barman allowed me to sample before buying which is a good sign.

We said that we would certainly return.

visited this pub recently and what can i say???

well what a delight to find a proper country pub. the staff were friendly as were the locals at the bar. the beer was fantastic and the food good. yeah ok parts are a little dated and tired but hey isnt that what a old pub should be like? reading the last review posted i find what they had to say unbelievable and upon reading some of his other reviews it seems that the person is a little hard to please.

great pub. great people. great pint!

A cautionary Hallowean Tale from ye olde worlde village of Warmington.........
What's this, the most beautiful looking little pub?
Situated on the village green by the duck pond...... I thought this is it! This is what makes me proud to be English. It made my hart flutter and bought a lump to my throat, I was salivating at the thought of foaming pints of beer, some lovely food and great company. I thought this will be my second home!

That was until I pushed back the door to reveal, it was full of what looked like the same bunch of goules I had recently encountered at The Geen Man in Mollington ( see my previous review ) can you imagine my horror? I nearly ran screaming from the place.
But instead I steadied myself, gripped the bar and rationalised that it was hallowean after all, and that clearly the local bus must stop at Mollington first on a Sunday night. As I was sure that this was the only way they could get to Warmington on thier own. Either that or of course they borrowed their wives broom sticks?
James I said, ignore the silence and one eyed stares, be a man and just think of the beer.
So I did and to be fair I enjoyed a pint and even a second from a nice selection. However I thought it best to leave rather quickly, after the unfriendly atmosphere that resinated from a few of the locals became palpable, after I unwisely sat on somebodies stool , bar that is. I never advise sitting on the other type.
So luckily I left without trying the food, which from the dog eared menu looked to be bog standard at best.
Before tip toeing out, hopefully unnoticed, I chanced a quick look in the mirror to see if I had "From London, not welcome " stamped on my forehead.....No, nothing there. I wonder what the problem is then??
So out into the dark and on with the quest my friends, for that, the most sacred of places, a decent friendly pub............I will find my second home! Wish me luck on what is turning out to be a rather intrepid journey.
My advise to fellow pilgrims near Banbury?
Beware of villages ending in "ton"
James

The pub we admit was warm and friendly but the food was well overpriced.
The Curry was a cook-in-sauce with possibly some stir fried chicken. Cold plate, small amount of boiled rice and nothing else. Definitely not worth 8.95. Considering local pubs are doing a curry and a pint for $4.95 this is really bad value. Unbelevable basic menu with even ham, eggs & chips 8.95. Nice warm pub but don't eat here.
