Now the Yew Tree and under new tenants from Dec 2018 - along with a fancy new website.

Popped in for a mid walk drink and was greeted enthusiastically by the staff.

Four real ales on - two from Sheffields Bradfield Brewery (strange, as we're a long way from there). I was warned that they would be cloudy as "something had been done in the cellar". Samples offered and the beer was fine.

Lovely location and I wish them every success.

I reviewed this pub in 2012 but my comments seem to have been deleted. I remarked at the time how the licensee had had to stop a local making off with a cardboard cutout of the Queen - obviously during Diamond Jubilee Year this was too scandalous a happening to report on this website.

What hasn't been deleted is my score which was a 6. That hasn't proved high enough to make me revisit and there is every chance that I will never be able to do so - the pub reopened after a 15 month closure in February this year but the new owners are already looking to turn the pub into a private dwelling.

Looked very pleasant from the outside, but the Landlord as telling me that he found it virtually impossible to do anything to improve the food and beer, as he was stuck with Enterprise who clearly want to run it into the ground. A shame really. As a consequence, the village does not seem to want to support it.

I am new to the area and am enjoying trying out local pubs, although I can say that I enjoyed this one. The Hooky tried was cloudy and off and when I spoke to the barman ( I think possibly the landlord ?) he actually tried to tell me it was how it should be.
I did not bother with any food after this as just wanted to leave. It was a shame as it looks a nice village pub from the outside. Jamie

Not very impressed. Although I never tried either, I would love to know what makes both the 'Avon burger and 'Avon bbq ribs' "famous". Famous in Avon Dassett maybe but not coming from these parts but not too far away, I had never heard of their so called famous dishes. The pate was certainly not made on the premises (although they never claimed it was, but on the Christmas Menu it does say "our chefs pride themselves on preparing fresh, wholesome, home cooked foods...") and was the bland rubbery type that you know is just bought in, cheap with no quality. On the plus side, the Timothy Taylor was well kept and enjoyable. Overall, expensive poor quality food but good beer.
