As Wetherspoons go, it's a good one with a very cheap and good selection of ales on offer. Pleasant enough.

went in mid-week all three times i went to the bar got served straight away.3 pints of phoenix wobbly bob went down well at £2 -15 a pint.a reasonable j d wetherspoon.

I've been going in here on and off since it first opened. After 6 months abroad went in August 10 on a quiet afternoon and was shocked to see the state of it now. I was instantly hit by a pungent smell (coming from black dirty carpets?) that made me feel sick and definately change my mind about eating there. Tables were sticky, stained and the whole place was tired and in need of at least a clean and most refurbishment. What a shame to see a once decent pub so neglected.

This place was absolutely packed on our Saturday eveing visit. Apparently the Haydock Park races had been on earlier in the day and the pub is within walking distance. The selection of beers was good, with seemingly all available - Hawkshead Lakeland Gold, George Wright Mocne Piwa, Phoenix White Tornado, Prospect Ore Some, Caledonian Nectar, Ruddles Best, Greene King Abbot Ale, Adnams Broadside, Westgate Back of the Net and Coach House Toffee. Westons Marcle Hill was the real cider from the fridge. The area of tiling near the entrance is fairly impressive. There are several separate drinking areas, which create a slightly better than average atmosphere for a Spoons. Watch out for the local youths lobbing bricks, shoes and other general household items at each other and at passers by in the adjacent B & M car park. A fairly decent Wetherspoons in a pretty dire town centre.

A good Wetherspoon's with all beers sampled by our group of 4 on form and standard but well prepared menu - we were there for breakfast on our way north to Dumfries. Seemed to be the best place to try in town for a stranger - we've been back since and were equally happy

Not a bad spoons.. food always acceptable.. beer can be variable. One of the few "safe" places for a quiet drink in a town full of knuckle dragging neanderthals.

Don't understand the stranger comment! Ashton is a fairly friendly place! Good use for the former Kwik Save supermarket, well managed, just short of a few bar staff sometimes (Ever heard that a 'spoons pub before!)

Although a large place and typically decorated `Wethers` style, this is a `locals` boozer. Being a stranger in here is not advisable, although there is a large number of bar staff on duty.
