The Bell, Walthamstow

Now reopened under new management and what a transformation! Deliciously kept beer, lovely stripped down decor, this is a great example of the "modern urban London pub" style which is increasingly appearing in Zones 2 and 3, and the first pub of this kind in the E17 area.

It is early days, but the first indications are excellent. Friendly staff, wide range of ales o, good music and also great opening hours (until 1am Fri and Sat).

If I were to suggest improvements it would be to include more small local brewers (e.g. Brodies, Redemption) and less of the big national brewers (Doom Bar, Timothy Taylor) - it would also be great to see some more interesting draft lagers (e.g. Camden Town or Brewdog), but what a fantastic start. Cheers!

The Castle, Walthamstow

I have met this landlord at the Nags Head - he seemed like a nice chap to me! Still, the castle remains a peculiarly soulless place - strange really, when the Nags is so nice.

The Goose, Walthamstow

Cheap as chips and full of colourful characters. The only pub I have seen where people regularly flout the smoking ban! Not as horrible as it ought to be!
