The Canal Inn, Wrantage

Sadly, sadly, sadly the Canal has changed hands again. We had a very poor experience there a couple of weeks ago. (No offer of wine list, very limited menu, untrained staff who didn't know what they were doing and no sign of a manager when we mentioned our concerns.) The Slovakian lady already mentioned appears to have left - a shame as she was terrific.

The Vivary Arms, Taunton

I have been eating there fairly frequently for years and it is a lovely pub that doesn't claim to be anything but what it is - a friendly, local style, traditional pub with excellent, freshly cooked food. Interesting fresh food, that is, not gastro pub food with gastronomical prices. Well worth a visit but don't expect a trendy club type atmosphere because it definitely ain't that. My mum loves it, my kids love it and the friends that we have taken there love it too.
