The Dog and Duck, Linton
I was looking forward to dining here as I had read a good article about the place. It was a pleasant pub with a tidy, neat restaurant but the food I'm afraid to say left an awful lot to be desired. The menu was fussy and we were struggling to find something that appealed to us so we went for the plainest we could find. We started with the Thai fishcakes that resembled little shiny discs that looked nothing like a fishcake, they tasted like deep fried spicy rubber! For the main course my partner had sirloin steak, he was asked how he would like it done and he asked for it to be medium rare, well that was a joke I have never ever seen one like the steak he was served up, it was no more than 5mm thick, it was as flat as a pancake, even the flashest of cooking it could be no less than well done, it was only fit to go between two slices of bread. I had the rack of lamb and asked for it to be well done, it was blood red with a horrible crust and on a very greasy, tasteless cassoulet of beans, yeuk! Seeing as we had not eaten much of our meal up to now we ordered a dessert. We had the apple crumble but the crumble was more like flour. We were the only diners that evening and I suppose an empty restaurant speaks for itself, we definately will not be returning.
