Fox and Hounds, Whitchurch

Good friendly local pub. Always has 5 brains cask ales on, plus either a guest or a seasonal from Brains, making it one of the biggest ranges of cask ale in this area. If you fancy a good pint of Brains Dark, or something a little different, the Fox is worth a visit.

Food is perfectly reasonable, but is fairly standard pub grub.

Watch out for beer fests too. Good, large beer garden, plus covered outdoor smoking area.

The Blackweir Tavern, Cardiff

Sketchy - I'd guess the Pay & Display is to ensure enough spaces are there for genuine customers. A pub this close to the city centre (and Council-run Pay & Display car parks) is otherwise likely to be full of commuters looking for free parking. A similar situation exists at the Grape & Olive (where without the parking control, it would be full of people going to the Heath Hospital).

At the Grape & Olive, you get your parking fee back as soon as you buy something in the bar - it may be the same at the Blackweir, but I'm not certain.

Not a Brains scam - just Brains trying to ensure the customer car park actually has spaces for customers. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

Last time I went to the Blackweir, the food was excellent (broad range at good prices, and very tasty).
