Sketchy - I'd guess the Pay & Display is to ensure enough spaces are there for genuine customers. A pub this close to the city centre (and Council-run Pay & Display car parks) is otherwise likely to be full of commuters looking for free parking. A similar situation exists at the Grape & Olive (where without the parking control, it would be full of people going to the Heath Hospital). At the Grape & Olive, you get your parking fee back as soon as you buy something in the bar - it may be the same at the Blackweir, but I'm not certain. Not a Brains scam - just Brains trying to ensure the customer car park actually has spaces for customers. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Last time I went to the Blackweir, the food was excellent (broad range at good prices, and very tasty). rra - 24 Jul 2009 15:32 |

Good place to watch the Rugby. Lots of students during term time as its located near the main university halls. Good pint of Brains - as is expected in Wales! tanglewood - 3 Nov 2006 21:42 |
