Best time to visit is during the day or early evening, ie before the students of Winchester take over. never eaten here, but the beer is well served and the bar manager is great . .. the rest of the staff, well it can partly depend on the day you visit . .but this a regular drinking hole for us after work.

St James Tavern, Winchester

Just perfect for a quick bite to eat and a good pint, whether in the evening or at lunch time. Really friendly staff, and a nice place to relax after a day working or shopping in Winchester.

The Plough, Sparsholt

Really really surprised by the comments. The Plough has just won another accolade for their food, and they deserve it.

The food is simply fabulous, a tadge expensive and yes the service can be slow when busy but that's because it is all freshly cooked on the premises. So why not relax, and enjoy a hour or two here. Ignore the comments about freezer, simply not true . .I am a regular plus my daughter once worked in the kitchens so I know!

Locals will sit at the bar and in the summer you will see lots of people outside drinking, but if you are looking for a simply a drink then the only comment I do agree with is that most people do come here to eat rather than drink . .but it is a PUB, and I think a great one.
