The Strathmore Arms, St Pauls Walden
Went there this evening and were really impressed with the beer there. Seems like a little gem tucked away waiting to be sought out. The landlord was really friendly and very welcoming. Also it looked like some of the nights planned for different food events including a "wild food " tasting night could be a cracking different night out. Bit of a trek but worth every mile. Get a vehicle designate a pilot and get out there , you will be really pleased. Any chance of a late night bus route to somewhere with a train ?????

Same as reviewer beneath . Took ages to get served a crappy pint by a nobber. Then just a min afer the bell rang the pikey female manager waddled over and said its time to go. She really is someone who should do a different job. A useless corperate manager that know nothing about customer service and has just ruined pubs in the Uk. Was in the other eve as someone said there was some accoustic music and it was actually ok. An ok if young crowd friendly and happy. Was sad to see the horrible manager still employed.

The Lower Red Lion, St Albans
The Lower Red Lion used to be THE real ale pub in St Albans but went through a slightly tricky period which has now thankfully passed. The pub is now looking spruce and the great range of ales are in tip top nick. We had been travelling some way out of town for a roastie on a Sunday as finding one in St A which was in a place which wasnt either over priced or packed out was a nightmare. Look no further the roast dinner in the Lwr Red is up there with the very best in the area. Well presented and very reasonable. With the spring thinking about spinging and the garden looking in great shape lets hope a great mixture of folk come and enjoy this pearl of tradition public houses in St Albans.
