The Fisherman's Cot, Bickleigh
We moved to Tiverton last year and on the drive down went past the Fishermans Cot, saying we must visit when we get a chance. I'm glad we did as it's one of the most stunning places I've ever been to. We went for our first anniversary dinner and were placed on a lovely table by one of the large windows overlooking the lake. The staff were polite, attentive and courteous (and I know about this stuff - I'm a bar manager!). They saw to our every need and made us feel really at home. The food and drink was reasonably priced, and was fantastic. None of this fancy pants restaurant style food, just fantastic, filling, traditional pub food - the type that's hard to come by now! And the desserts, not had better in a long time! In all, our night out was brilliant. We are now regular visitors to the Fishermans Cot (especially their superb sunday carvery), we recommend it to any visiting friends, and take anyone who stays with us there for lunch / dinner!
Polite staff, great food, great price, FAB location - what more do you want in a pub?!

The Langton Arms, Tarrant Monkton
What can I say, this place was terrible. The food was overcooked and salty. We went for sunday lunch and won't be hurrying back. The staff were rude and had no knowledge of the local bitters, and the food was far too expensive for what we got.
The whole pub had no atmosphere to it, it was a money making business not a welcoming and friendly place to eat.
If you're coming down this way for food, don't bother with the Langton Arms, go to The True Lover's Knot, its only a couple of miles away and the food and prices were much better.

We found this lovely little pub by chance and went for a Sunday lunch. The pub is in a stunnign location and as we got therequite early we went for a walk around the village, over the millennium field and down to a lovely little stream with benches. At 12, when the pub opened we have a lovel pint, followed by a beautifully cooked lunch - I had beef and my partner had chicken. Both were generous portions for the prices, and fantastically well cooked and presented. We followed this with desserts of chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding (unfortunately they didn't have the bread and butter pub we both had our eye on). Again, the desserts were a good size and a very good price! We paid 12 pounds a head for a 2 course meal.
We sat in the garden and were joined by the pub cat, Gordon (very friendly - loved the icecream!). The staff were attentive, polite and courteous, not forgetting that we were sitting out there (as can so often happen).
I can't wait to take my family to this stunning little place. Well done, keep it up!
