I am new to the Bickleigh area and found The Trout quite easily. Their huge car park was almost full, as was their beer garden. They display a very extensive menu outside the pub so you can browse before you enter and we were spolit for choice - there is literally something for all tastes.
We were greeted by a very friendly young lady who couldn't do enough for us. We had a beautiful bottle of wine (from an extensive wine list) and after a lot of delibertion choose our food. This arrived after about half an hour which given how busy they were was very prompt. It looked good enough to eat!!!! I had a local whole Sole and my husband had Cod and Chips. Both were absolutley gorgeous and my husband said it was the best Cod he had ever had!!!
The waitress then offered us desserts which were on display in a huge cabinet and were very mouthwatering. How could we refuse?!?!
Luckily for us this pub is on our doorstep and is now our local, espescailly as we are non smokers. We have eaten there five times in the last month and have never had a bad meal (although booking is essential as they are very busy). I would urge anyone to go out of their way to try it out as it one of the best places to eat.
Our neighbours go there regularly as they have climbing frames and bouncy castles for the kids as well as a toddler's and children's menu.

The Fisherman's Cot, Bickleigh
A typical chain pub I'm afraid. Drove by and saw a beautifu pub on the banks of a river. Nice seating area outside and thought we'd stop for a drink. Took over 5 minutes to get served and then the bar maid barely spoke english. Eventually got our drinks (and very expensie they were too) but then couldn't sit and enjoy them as there was no fencing along the side of the river just a bare stone wall and a drop to the river below - VERY DANGEROUS. Spent the whole time worrying my two young children might fall in. Didn't eat as I refuse to pay nearly 10 for Scampi and Chips. The food I did see didn't look that great and a lot of people were complaining about the wait. Got back in the car to continue our journey when 30 seconds down the road we came to The Trout Inn. Huge enclosed beer garden, children's play area, bouncey castle and SAFE so no worries about the children. Had a great meal and a great price. We will be back there again!!
