The George & Dragon, Westerham

Having read several positive reviews about the George and Dragon � perfectly situated in the centre of Westerham, one of Kent�s most attractive small towns � our party of five were eagerly looking forward to an enjoyable Friday lunch.
Unfortunately the experience proved something of an anti-climax.
To begin with several items on the menu were unavailable � a fact not presented to us until we had spent some time studying what was on offer and were ready to order.
Next, the two starters we selected took almost 20 minutes to arrive. Finally, the main courses were served but, in truth, were nothing to write home about: the two sea bass dishes were overcooked and a chicken dish suffered the same fate.
But worse was to follow. A simple request to our waitress for a non-alcoholic drink from the bar was flatly refused: she insisted that someone at our table would have to get up from their meal and get it themselves.
A complaint was registered with the manager and although both he and the waitress offered their apologies and free coffees for those who wanted them, the damage had been done and the general feeling among our party was one of acute disappointment.
It�s a pity � and maybe this was just a bad day. But having travelled some distance the feeling among us was that our money had not been well spent.
