Visited recently on a Sunday for a family meal with a dozen of us that had been pre booked in advance. First time the wife and I had been here but other members of the family had been before. One remarked that the pub during the day is very different to the evening mainly due to the younger local crowd that gets in here at night. 2 ales on the hand pumps which were both from Fullers, London Pride and Seafarer’s. The 3 pints of Seafarer’s I had were all very decently kept and poured. With a dozen people to feed with ages ranging from 14 from 82, I thought the staff handled this well and the food was decent….though it could have been a bit hotter. One of the older members of my party had a moan! The George is a very nice pub, it’s obviously got some age to it but not as old as the King’s Arms opposite, though I think the George has more character. I’ll possibly not return here just for a drink but I would for food as members of the family live fairly close by. It’s decent and worth a stop for food. lezford - 23 Dec 2016 12:21 |
Went for a (young) family meal with friend after calling ahead to make sure this wasn't a problem, finally got fed three hours later. the young staff seemed fine but the older gentleman running the restaurant just seemed to have the wrong attitude, the whole thing was made doubly embarrassing as we had a good experience the last time and had recommended it to our friends. One further thing, having to ask for the vegetarian menu rather than it being out by default makes you feel 2nd class :-( BackAche - 29 Dec 2015 18:52 |
The pub and restaurant had a cosy feel to it. The merlot tasted very nice. The service is dependant on the waitresses. One of the waitresses was helpful. Another waitress when asked a simple question about the menu was very abrupt. I ordered Sausages with Leek, Mash and a Sauce. The sausages arrived over cooked and parts of it were burnt. When I told another waitress about the meal at the end a casual sorry was received from her. Nothing else was done. I will never go back to the restaurant and do no not recommend it to anyone. muksgb - 8 Apr 2012 00:02 |
Visited last evening and found this to be a pleasant pub with good food and friendly service. Beer range disappointing with Courage Best and Directors plus the ubiquitous London Pride. Rather expensive, though. metrology_man - 3 Jan 2012 09:15 |
I met up with a relative for lunch some weeks ago and decided to eat outside as it was a really nice day. Were told by the waiter that the wait for food would be 30 mins as a party of 30 were expected (never heard or saw this "party"). When food arrived it was actually 45 mins later - there was a new waitress who didn't even bring us cutlery and the food was terrible. This was the second time I had been to the George and Dragon but I will never go there again. I even wrote a letter of complaint to the manager but got no reply ! gphilip45 - 27 Jun 2011 12:03 |
