I've been to the beergarden couple of times and I love it. It is traditionally. You have to get your beer yourself, It is normal that you only have to choices of beer. And actually: you have three because you can order "Radler" as well.
You also have a typically children's playground.

You shouldn't really have a baked potatoe if you try to eat "german" stuff.
Try "Kaesespaetzle" (thick - cut homemade egg noodles with cheese) or "Weisswurst" (bavarian veal sausage). They are excellent.

Anyway. Maybe it is something special for german that the have a place to go to if they want to have a bit of origin.

Try it. Go with friends and have a good time. Even with real Bavarian music in the backround.
