The Albion, Ampthill

This pub serves the best quality and range of beer that I have ever experienced – if only all landlords supplied such service, no pub would need to close for lack of custom. The Albion is co-owned by Everards and Banks &Taylor – two great breweries. It’s not a huge pub, it’s not a food pub (but who cares?), parking is best managed some way off, but the beer is fantastic, the manager excellent and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. Little doubt that this is the best pub in the County.

The Chequers Inn, Binham

Just returned from another enjoyable visit to The Chequers Inn at Binham. The best thing about this pub is the beer, which is brewed at their own micro-brewery at the back of the pub (The Front St Brewery), the friendly welcome and the local atmosphere. There is a good range of beers, all well-kept, and taste before you buy is encouraged. The beer, however, is quite expensive especially considering that there would seem to be no middle-man or cartage to include. That said it is probably worth it! The food is typical pub-grub and a little over-priced for the area. I recommend The Chequers Inn for a smashing pint.

The Wellington Arms, Bedford

Having visited here many times, I can confirm that The Wellington has the best beer in Bedford. There will not be many names you will recognise but sure to be something you like. The bar staff are knowledgeable and friendly. This is not a pub where much eating is done it is a serious real ale (and cider) pub and often crowded with friendly regulars. My only negative comment is that one end of the pub, nearer the loos, often smells strongly of disinfectant, which is rather off-putting to the taste buds!
