The Royal Oak, Pett

Reopened a month or so ago after a major refurbishment necessitated by the state the previous management left it in. As already stated, the team from the Queen's Head, Icklesham are now in charge.
Harvey's Best is �3 a pint and is, in my opinion the best to be found in any of the nearby local pubs. Certainly the clearest. 3 other beers on handpump including Old Speckled Hen and 1 of the Old Dairy brews.
Four of us had lunch there last Sunday. 3 roast beefs and 1 cod and chips. Generous portions and tasty food. The roasts were �8.95, can't recall the price of the fish, but with a drink apiece the bill was �50. Good value.
The place feels a bit "new" for a village local but that's because of the amount of work that was needed to restore it. No doubt the newness will wear off.

The pub was sold at auction a couple of months ago. Local press reports say the buyers are a consortium of local businessmen including the owner of the Queen's Head at Icklesham. So, watch this space for a re-opening in Spring 2011?

The White Lion, Tenterden

Had a nice pint of Jennings Cumberland before a very pleasant Sunday lunch with friends. The service was a bit on the slow side as there was a significant time gap between placing the order and the arrival of the food. We wondered whether the kitchen was awaiting the arrival of a larger party so all could have freshly cooked vegetables? We were offered (& accepted!) a bottle of wine for the price of 2 glasses. Food was very good, except that I didn't get the requested "rare" roast beef, tho' one seldom does. Overall, good value for money - �10.95 each for the 2 course lunch, and they reimburse you with the cost of the parking in the "Pay & display" at the rear of the pub, if you are dining. Will go again, but watch out for large prebooked parties!
