Chequers Inn, Poole

This is purely a personal experience, and may well be a one off, but here goes. We know the pub has recently been refurbished, and is much better than in recent times. We also remember the pub from the early '80s when live bands used to regularly play.
Anyway, we decided to visit this evening (Saturday at around 6:00pm) and were in the main bar deciding what drinks to order, the bar staff were being friendly and helpful, when we were pounced on from behind by a rather rude woman (who we assume to be the landlady, or an overzealous manager), and asked to immediately remove our children from the bar area. We were ushered to sit in the cold and uninviting conservatory, and were the only people sat in this area, away from the heart of the pub atmosphere, which we feel is part of the experience. We honestly did not enjoy our visit.
We understand this pub is a business and food is the main income and the law may forbid children from the bar area but as we were not eating on this occasion, we felt that our custom and presence was unwelcome. We will not be returning in the near future.
